Christmas tree coffee cake. It’s not Christmas without it.
I picked up a few sides at a local gourmet to-go shop that I have discovered in new city for Thanksgiving and they also had a yummy sounding breakfast casserole for order at that time - ham, cheese, red peppers. Got one and put it in the freezer for Christmas breakfast at D’s house and will make butter coffee cake to accompany. May go wild and make some sausage balls to add for grazing and have some pumpkin bread in freezer that I may add. We’ll see… I love breakfast and your responses are making me hungry!
Usually an egg casserole, monkey bread, fruit, and fresh bagels and lox
My husband makes pancakes from scratch–it’s his father’s recipe. Except for the pancakes, my FIL never cooked, even though he was a cook in the Navy. He would say that he had no idea how to cook for less than 200 people. We usually have eggs with the pancakes plus fresh fruit and coffee. We eat before exchanging gifts and then don’t have anything until dinner, which is usually around 3:30-4:00 pm.
Is it a unique recipe or just good old fashioned pancakes?
I always got a can of black olives in my stocking. I would put them on my fingers and eat them for breakfast. Santa still brings me a can!
I just showed the Army meme to my husband, and he had a good laugh. But he saw “pancakes” mentioned above and now says I need to make Natasha’s Kitchen apple pancakes for Christmas breakfast. Ugh.
We were at a friend’s house for some holiday one year when S23 was about 5 and she served bacon-wrapped sausages. His eyes lit up and the yelled “You never told me you could wrap sausage in bacon!!!”. Since then, every Christmas morning has been something wrapped in bacon. Usually, the last thing he asks before going to bed is “what are you wrapping in bacon this year?”
This year is baked french toast and “something wrapped in bacon” (I haven’t decided what yet).
I’ve gotta know…what are a couple examples of items you have wrapped….
While it’s not available, and none of the current emojis seem to fit, I’ll have to personally bring out the appropriate one:
I make a French toast casserole and hashed brown casserole the night before, then we just pop them in the oven in the morning. We used to try to make a big brunch and it was a nightmare. I probably started doing the casseroles the night before about 10 years ago and my family loves the relaxed morning opening gifts.
I don’t think it’s unique–ingredients are flour, baking powder, eggs. milk, and butter. We never have anything like that for breakfast, so it’s a treat.
Traditionally we have monkey bread and quiche, but I think I am going to sub the quiche with something else savory this year as one of mine has gone vegan. Maybe bagels with a variety of toppings. There’s a good bagel place near us that has a vegan cream cheese (my vegan says it tastes just like dairy cream cheese, I say it tastes like chalk).
Yuck!
It’s almost always some other form of sausage. Mini links, breakfast sausages, hot links. It’s usually pretty gross, to be honest. I’d definitely prefer scallops, shrimp or asparagus, but the rest of my family insists those are not breakfast foods.
Always the same(ish) thing here:
Croissant Bread Pudding
Bacon or Ham
Berries
Coffee & Mimosas
We don’t have a good Christmas breakfast routine. One year I did an egg casserole and a different year we did baked oatmeal. This year, however, I bought a decorative loaf pan and I will make something in it. In fact, maybe I should start looking at recipes. We also have hot chocolate. We don’t eat that big of a meal though, as we usually have the big family meal around one or two o’clock. This thread is inspiring me to do better.
Many people have a tradition of a Kringle on the holidays. Many of our grocery store carry them. We had an almond one near Thanksgiving that was very good.
