That depends entirely on the baker and the eater! I am telling you I, personally, ME, do not like sugar cookies or any iced cookies and find them too sweet. I have tasted many, many, many homemade cookies that are too sweet for me! That’s kind of a ridiculous generalization to make.
In general I prefer dark chocolate for my sweet things and then savory snacks. Not much for cookies. I rarely buy them and when I do I buy locally baked cookies. When I bake them I bake them to my taste, so add a little savory to them. I do bake cookies, pies, cakes, etc, but usually just for special occasions and I don’t like to have them around the house. I find many baked goods from other folks overly sweet.
And I really just don’t like sugar cookies, especially frosted ones. If someone gave me those I would try to give them away, honestly, or get my husband or one of my kids to eat them. My other kid is vegan so wouldn’t eat them unless they were vegan.
Dark chocolate, I’m all about, though. Got no use for milk chocolate.
I’ve made some recently, not iced cookies, in fact, I stay away from them. I don’t like sugary sweet either, and I did follow the recipe the chocolate walnut recipe, it’s not as sweet as store bought cookies either.
Read some of the reviews and did add more nutmeg and used rum in lieu of rum extract. I also did not make them golf ball sized–about half that. Yielded close to six dozen. H and I downed half of them since Sunday! Soooo tasty and sooo easy!!!
I’m living vicariously through those of you making lots of cookies. We aren’t seeing a lot of people this season, and we don’t want to EAT them all, so I’m not making cookies.
I did order myself some See’s candy though - that will be my big indulgence.
Tomorrow afternoon, I’m baking chocolate crinkles, and peppermint blossoms. I was going to do one cookie today, but decided to have the mess one day only!
Not making a lot of cookies this year for the same reason. That said, I did buy a canister of sea salt chocolate caramels from Sams yesterday. Soooo yummy! Got them as a gift one year from Costco so when I saw them at Sam’s decided to treat myself.
I did another batch today, brought some to my art teacher. Already purchased 2lbs of See’s Candy certificate, my husband’s always looking forward to his box on Christmas Day.
I love to bake and this is my favorite season, I don’t have to pay for A/C to cool the house down.
This weekend I will make ginger cookies again, but perhaps make them crispier and spicier for my husband. He really enjoyed the ginger cookies our daughters gave him from Fortnam Mason, they were spicy.
I made these today - they are very, very good! And quite easy! I could have probably cut mine a little thinner - I used half cranberries and half dried cherries (mixed together)
It’s one where you will need to refrigerate for a few hours before slicing and baking
I made the Peppermint Blossoms and Chocolate Crinkles today. I’m supposed to bake with a friend tomorrow. But she isn’t feeling well, so we may just each do four kinds and swap. My two remaining would be peanut butter balls, and Russian tea cakes, I think. I can also make the ginger crinkles.
Today I made the toffee I posted above. I DID have a candy thermometer but I’ve probably only used it once before!
Had no idea it would take so long to get to temperature AND didn’t figure out till at least 15 mins in that I could clip the thermometer to the pan and NOT hold it!
Today I made ginger crinkles. They taste delicious. I actually added a little more ginger than the recipe called for. But they don’t look like the picture…and that always drives me nuts. They look fine…but not like the pictures!
Tomorrow…chocolate ginger truffles…which are so easy! I’ll double the recipe, and these will also be gifts. Great for the gluten free friends!
Tried 2 new ones this year: a cranberry, pistachio, orange zest drop cookie and a coconut macadamia (and brazil nut) snowball.
Due to poor execution, neither are terribly attractive; but boy are they tasty!
