Christmas Tree Shop closing

We remember back in the 80’s when a trip to Cape Cod also invoked a bunch of Christmas Tree Shops trips…to various of their stores including the large one. Management changed and their merchandise definitely took a fall (in our opinions). Still, a friend and I did an annual day after Christmas outing there for all things marked down for the following year.

Now…these stores are closing. I confess, the last two times I was there, I actually purchased absolutely nothing. But still…it was a fun outing.

Oh well.

I’m kind of surprised. There are two in my area and both have always been very busy.

The large one in Manchester CT is closing. So is the one by Danbury Fair mall. Two big stores.

I think it’s the chain in general that is closing…73 stores.

Sort of like BBB. Ours was always busy, but like Christmas Tree, the merchandise had changed in quantity and quality over the years…and prices.

Yup. It’s the whole chain.

Oh interesting. I had heard some stores staying open. Perhaps they are just closing slowly over time. We have often visited the one near the Cape Cod canal.

Perhaps people are getting that kind of cheap items through Amazon now. It was fun to browse, but as the years went by we bought less and less there.

Whole chain closing. Here is the article.

I’ve only been in one once. There isn’t one local. It seemed a little similar to Big Lots to me but again, only there once.

Did I read that they were some way associated with BBBeyond??

At one point BBB owned them, but they sold them off a while ago to a group that hoped to revitalize them. That didn’t happen…apparently.

Good memories. I think the parking lots were crushed oyster shells, a nice touch.

We also liked to go to Colonial Candle of Cape Cod. The store had a wonderful smell from all the scented candles. And if I remember right they had an outlet in Hyannis with factory seconds that looked perfectly fine to us.

They have a store in our area that I have visited a couple times in the last few years. I was never particularly impressed with their inventory, and did not buy much on the few occasions when we went. Last November I went there to buy new strands of lights since ours were old and unreliable. The selection was terrible and I left with nothing. On the way home I stopped at Walgreens and found exactly what I was looking for - a nice selection of LED lights with different options of color and style.

One of my mother’s favorite stores. We always went to the one near the Bourne Bridge when at the Cape.

I’m looking at a duster right now that I know came from there - probably 20 years ago.
