they just posted on their website that they will not be opening on friday until 10am
I agree with theplanner that UC Should open tomorrow based on the weather report, but they have said they were opening at 11am the past 2 days and then end up closing. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear about scholarships!
It’s -2 F right now in Cinci, and they should be open now. Hopefully they jump on the task if sending out the emails since they’re significantly behind schedule in admissions/aid. Please post if you receive anything! Thanks!
Jus checked. They’re open. Today may be the day!
I called, they said that they will have the emails out by the end of the month. The guy on the line offered to look my name up in the database of emails that will be going out and I wasn’t on there. College just became significantly more expensive… Fantastic. Good luck to you all and your applicants.
Thanks for the update theplanner. Sorry that you did not get good news.
I’m sorry to hear that. what number did you call?
The UC number, then they redirected me to the aid dept.
I called the number for the Cincinnatus program in the Financial Aid office (556-2420), and they still haven’t sent emails… but, I was able to confirm receipt of the University Scholars award, but will not know the actual amount until the official letter next month. Good luck to everyone.
I called also and found out my D will get at a minimum of $1500. Because we are out of state, she will qualify for the extra $3,000. The person I spoke to said that they are comparing the students that qualified for merit scholarships to determine the actual amount each student will receive. Said to expect a letter in mid-March with the details.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your perspective), I understand that the Cincinnatus award pools are distributed evenly across all majors, so having high credentials within, say, CEAS will result in a lower relative award, or maybe even no award at all. It would be nice if worked more like Honors, where the top ~5% are considered straight up, regardless of major. Oh well.
My impression from the person I spoke to is that they have made the determination of who will get a scholarship. At this point, a student who has qualified will get at least the minimum of $1500. The actual amount will depend on how a student compares to their peers in thier major or the department.
unc1957, that’s exactly how it shook out last year.
Finally got an official email notification today for Cincinnatus University Scholars with the actual award amount to be mailed out later this month.
Same here, for my son – he also received an invitation a couple of weeks ago to apply for a Demakes Alumni Scholarship (both my dad and I attended, as did my sister and one of my brothers).
He’s hoping for good mojo – he really wants to attend UC…
Still no email notification for us. I am relying on my phone conversation with the Financial Aid Department that my D will be a Cincinnatius Scholar. My D received an email inviting her to apply for a regional alumni network scholarship today. Did not realize that Cincinnati had an Alumni group in our area. Has to submit an application by Friday including a 250 word essay and activities resume.
Actually, my D did get an email today about being a Cincinnatius Scholar. She forgot to tell me about it until I asked her if she had checked her email.
Congratulations, @unc1957 –
My wife and son are headed to UC (and a revisit to MiamiU) this weekend, for the honors program reception. I drew the short straw and have to stay home!
@guyk27, Please post information about the honors program brunch and presentations on the honors program. We live in NC and cannot attend the honors program event this weekend. It was too far to travel for just one day. We have already decided that D will attend UC, so attending would not change our decision. Hope your son finds out what he needs to know so y’all can decide where he attends school.
@unc1957 – they arrived home late last night. I didn’t get that good of a report from them, just snippets. Their trip was a revisit to MiamiU and also a revisit tied in with the honor’s program brunch. They noted the UC campus was kind of empty on a Saturday (thinking back, that’s one of the things I liked about the campus – late at night, and on weekends, it was a pretty quiet place, and I would get a lot of work done then). They toured honor’s housing (Turner and Daniels), with tours given mostly by freshmen (they were told upper class tends to live off campus, although their tour guide said that he prefers to live on campus, because it’s easier to deal with when he has co-op terms; it was unclear to me whether or not he had already been on a co-op term, though). The brunch was in one of the dining facilities (Marketplace, I think) and they said they enjoyed it more than the experience at MiamiU the previous day.
They learned a little about the honor’s program (“one class, then a number of experiences, which can include study abroad and co-op”) and then separated into groups based on colleges. So he went off with an engineering student – saw one of the labs in Baldwin, and then some of the newer labs in the ERC. Then at the end of the day, my son had arranged a meeting with one of the faculty in his intended major (biomedical engineering).
I know this doesn’t help a whole lot – I will probably hear more bits and pieces in the next few days.
