CIS 61 Laney & COMSCI 260 DVC

Hello!

CIS 61 @ Laney and COMSCI 260 @ DVC are articulated courses with UC Berkeley.

Has anyone taken these courses recently? What are the schedules and in which semester are they offered?

Just wanted to plan ahead to avoid overlapping schedules with the classes I have to take in the same semester these classes are offered.

Anyone?
Thanks in advance,
JMember

You might want to ask on the UC transfers forum and/or the Berkeley forum.

I though this was the UC transfers forum? ;O

Moderators just moved them here -,-
I’d take them at Cal if I got in TBH  The only class in the CS61 series worth taking at CC is obviously 61B. Almost all transfers don’t have A and C as far as I know.

However, as seen on the Berkeley forum, a number of L&S CS and EECS transfers have heavy schedules in their first semesters with three lab courses (counting CS with programming as lab). This is a very high workload while handling the transition to a new school and new environment.

In addition, having to take the lower division prerequisites first semester of junior year reduces the amount of schedule space available for your upper division courses.

So if you have the opportunity to take the equivalents of CS 61A, 61B, and 61C before transferring to Berkeley L&S CS or EECS, it is a good idea to do so. If you have access to Laney, also consider its Engineering 17, which articulates to Berkeley EE 42 as required by the L&S CS major (EECS requires EE 40 and 20N). Berkeley L&S and EECS also require CS 70, but no community college discrete math course articulates to it (though you may want to take such a course as a preview).

I took COMSC 260 at DVC. It was the only CS class I got a B in. The material is pretty difficult, and the instructor does not help because he is boring (there is only one person at DVC who teaches that class).

Thanks for the replies…

Does anyone know the semester in which Laney’s CIS 61 is offered? The scheduled times for the class? I’ve already found DVCs schedules, but not Laneys.

Thanks in advance,

I don’t think Laney offer CIS61 this semester …

Edit: I mean Spring 2012

It seems that they are offering CS61A at laney this fall. Does anyone know how well laney’s class follows UCBerkeley’s 61A class?
