I'm writing my SFS "global issue" essay right now and was wondering if and when it would be appropriate to cite outside information. If I reference an famous idea (for example, the "clash of the civilizations" thesis of Samuel Huntington or Francis ***uyama's end-of-history thesis), will writing the author's name suffice? I don't plan on citing specific facts or quotations from books that I have previously read, so will writing the name of the book and the author be enough when I'm talking in generalities? I know that technically, this would be illegal in an academic, college paper but does the admissions essay work differently?

LOL @ CC bleeping Foo-koo-yama’s theory. I never really liked it that much anyway

MLA Citations are not necessary, just don’t try to pass off Huntington’s work as your own and you should be fine.
