Citing within an essay

I'm applying to Georgetown's SFS, and chose to write my essay on global immigration.

While researching the topic, I found a great article that sums the issue up very well and succintly outlines the true problem and causes.

Is it taboo to cite another author in my essay? Or should I just summarize his words in my own?

Thanks for the advice ahead of time!!

No, you cannot summarize someone else's words in your own words without citation.

I am concerned, though, that this "great article" sums everything up so well.

A main purpose of the essay is to hear you think things through, to see how well you can analyze on your own.

Make certain that whatever you write is nowhere near simply agreeing with what someone else wrote.

maybe you can get insperation from others............
