I am a rising senior in college, and I want to get a credit card to build some credit. I want one that I will use for many years or until I die. I really don't want to end up closing the account and then open a new one later as it will affect my credit score negatively. I am on the CitiBank website, and there seems to be so many different types of credit card. I am thinking of applying for the "Citi Foward" one. There's no annual fee and the purchase APR is almost the lowest one they have (even though I plan on paying everything in full and on time....so APR won't really affect me).

Which one do you guys have or recommend that I look at?

Find a card with the following…

No Annual Fee

Some type of rewards program/cash back

I have Visa through Wells Fargo, I think my APR is 23% or something, but I don’t care because I’m fiscally responsible, and I get 1% back on all purchases.

By the way, I really want to start building some credit. Is there a difference between buying something that costs $1 every month or something that costs $1000 in terms of building credit? Assume that I pay the the credit card company on time and in full.

I haven’t had enough experience with my Forward card to know if it’s a good one, but they are extremely generous with the line of credit they give you.

Edit - From what I’ve read, it’s not good to go past 30% of your credit limit (I have, but I’m going to pay it when I get the statement… I hope it doesn’t hurt that much) and you shouldn’t pay your bill in full each month. It’s much, much better to pay over the monthly statement each month… but not all of it because it doesn’t show that you can handle your credit. Just what I’ve read.

Awww… I really don’t want to have to pay the interest rate. Also, my credit score is probably really low since I don’t have anything on my credit report except two student loans. Will they still give me a credit card even though my credit score is low?

I’m bad with my money and I had two overdraft fees and if that was on my credit report that’s the only thing that’d be there… and they still gave me one. You really don’t need anything to get a Forward. You’re fine :P
