Citizenship dilemma on CSS! (Chinese or Canadian?)

So I have lived and gone to school in Canada for over 11 years now but my parents only decided to apply for Canadian Citizenship about a year ago. I will be getting my Canadian Citizenship around May this year, way before the September school year. On my Common App, I filled out that I was Chinese because I didn't want to be later blamed for lying saying I was Canadian before I actually was. However, I once emailed a Financial Aid Officer who said it was really up to me to put Chinese or Canadian.
So for the CSS profile do I put Chinese or Canadian? I know some schools offer better packages to Canadians versus Chinese.

Thanks in advance!

You are Chinese until you have your Canadian Citizenship documents in your hands.

You can let the colleges know that this is in process, but they won’t be able to treat you as a Canadian until you truly are.

That’s what I was afraid of… oh well… thanks for your answer, really appreciate the second opinion.

You should indicate that you’re a citizen of China. Attach a note saying that your Canadian citizenship is in process with an expected date in May.

This way, FAO may (or may not) award you some financial aid (as a Canadian)
