Citizenship Verification affects Financial Aid??

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this citizenship verification thing for financial aid services.

I got a notification for a citizenship verification and faxed to my respective colleges a copy of my passport, but I only did this fairly recently. Will my financial aid packages be delayed (as in not arrive at the same time everyone else's does) as a result of this? I mean they have all the numbers to crunch in their possession so will I get it the same time as everyone else does?

Thank you.

They need to know that you are eligible to receive the financial aid. Many places will delay processing until they know that you are you (so to speak). If you have sent the verification materials, wait a day or so, then contact them and ask if they have received it, and by the way, will this delay your fin aid letter.

But what’s weird is that all of the schools that I’m applying regular decision seems to want it, but I’ve already gotten a financial aid award letter from one of my EA schools without the verification. Is it possible I’ll get that for my RA schools too?

Your EA package was most likely tentative aid package. If the school requires the profile or their own institutional form, they could award you institutional aid (their own money). Remember, that you were not eligible to file the FAFSA until 1/1/2013. You will most likely get a finalized package once they verify that you are eligible for federal aid.

The citizenship issue is not what is commonly considered “verification.” Instead, it is a flag from the processor indicating that there was no citizenship match … so you have to submit proof of citizenship. You shouldn’t have any issues as a result, although sometimes schools will not automatically package your aid due to the flag - the computer system will bypass anything with an active flag. For this reason, you will want to provide your documentation as quickly as possible.
