Claim as many ap credits as possible?

I'm a little bit confused about how AP credits work at UT. I have already claimed AP credits for the courses that do apply towards my major. However, I scored highly on many other exams, but these exams do not provide credit for classes in my degree sequence. Would it still benefit me to claim these credits? As in, I could be classified as a Junior with extra credits, so I would get early registration, etc. Or Is there a disadvantage to claiming too many credits?

You won’t get the $1000 bonus for graduating with just the number of credits you need. (not sure how it is paid).

With their push to get students graduated, UT may hassle you for having excess of credits.

If you are from Texas, here is how tuition rebate works for Texans at the time of graduation.

[Tuition Rebates : Tuition Dollars & Sense](<a href=“Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin”>Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin)

So, you and your parents (if they are paying your bills) need to decide which one is more important to you:

To claim all eligible AP credits so you will have priority when it comes to class registration but not be qualified for the $1000 tuition rebate
Or
To claim just enough AP credits so you would not go beyond the required hours + 3 for your degree plan to be eligible for the rebate but lose the opportunity for early registration.

Other than that, I don’t see any other disadvantage for claiming too many credits.

If you think you’ll be having trouble getting into classes you want to take, claim the credits and be a junior so you’ll be able to get the classes without waitlisting and crossing your fingers. My D claimed all of her AP credits, always registered before others who started when she did, and was able to finish early.
