Well...I wanted a double but somehow  ended up in a single. Anyway, at least I have my own little room. I was just wondering how social Clara Dickson hall is, and what is the quality of the rooms (are they nice..or are they crappy)? :D

Also, I was wondering that since i am a CPRS scholar, whether or not I should extend my housing application all through the summer, in case I end up using this upcoming summer for research (most likely i am going to try and get some other internships)

clara dickson is pretty social. It's a essentially a very, very, long, winding hall of singles. the singles mean everyone comes out/opens their doors. rooms are a very decent size, but make sure to bring a floor lamp, the lighting sucks. Also, using computer-cord velcro ties to hold back your curtains is clutch. Putting your bed lofted over the radiator at the window sill gives you the most space/best layout IMO, plus the big window sill makes a nice bedside table.

Just a word on the numbering. Lets take 3643, my room last year, for example. -The 1000's digit is your floor. The main entrance is on floor 2. There are 5 floors.
-The 100's digit is your wing. There are 2 wings/sides: left, 5, and right, 6

-the 10's/1's digits are your room within the hall. The numbers on each wing and floor go from 01 to 99 (some numbers are skipped), ascending from the outside end of the hallways toward the center of the building.

..pretty social, as in, do they have a lot of parties or..?

nobody has (real) parties in the dorms. However, people will pregame/chill in a room all the time. Our kitchen was poker 24/7, and we'd all gather in this one kid's room to play Winning 11 on his xbox. I was lucky in having a hall with great chemistry, however. There were probably around 20 of us who were just really tight, from all walks of life, all social scenes. We got along great, and it was kind of like a fraternity.

...thanks :D

Dickson is an amazing experience for a freshman. Even though you're in a single, you are very much not alone (unless you choose to be).

In my opinion, it is the perfect freshman experience to have a single in Dickson.

do i need to bring a fan

yeah, definitely. just a small one like this: http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/stylePage.asp?order_num=-1&RN=534

Out of those Sparticus listed, the Honeywell fan seems like a good choice, because it's powerful for a small fan and is comparatively cheap.

the "super turbo personal" is the one i had. really nice...

Yep, that would be the honeywell one.

In my [somewhat biased] opinion, a single in Clara Dickson Hall is the absolute best living situation you can have as a freshman. Because there are close to 200 other people on your floor alone, you'll be meeting new people right up until the end of the year. When you want your space, you'll have your own room, but the hall (at least on my side) was extremely social. The RAs are amazingly chill, and the giant closets are a huge help in organizing/stashing away everything. I had a corner room, and the two windows made my room feel even bigger than it was.

yea, that's what I liked about getting Clara Dickson Hall, i saw that some of the other dorms (Donlon) didn't have closets. Yea, I can't wait for college to begin!!!:D

ABATAY!!!!! my hall kicked your hall's ***!

Yea, Dickson is the ****. My RA's were practically non-existent and I don't think anyone was JAed even though we were all blatently drunk a great deal of the time. My RA took this poor guy to throw up in the bathroom on a Monday morning at 5AM, lol. I requested a double and got a Dickson single. I was very happy with my single this year. Dickson is also relatively social, so you'll have a good time and learn to value the privacy of a single.

if i get a single am I at any disadvantages in terms of meeting people during the initial moments of freshman year?

A single does not put you at a disadvantage at all. It's just as easy to meet people in a single as it is in a double.

I think having a single encourages you to meet people since you don't have a roomate to rely on.

you need to interact with people either way. i don't think people are any more likely to flock to a double than a single.
