So I got a single at Clara Dickinson Hall. Whats are the pros and cons of here compared to CKB or Mews?

I heard there was a library on the first floor.

since a ton of people have singles, everyone mingles a lot to meet each other. it is on the same quad as donlon and court as well so people hang out outside together.

it just isnt as new and is really big.

Dickson is pretty awesome.

It isn’t the newest building around, but people are usually very social.

I can say that on my floor at least, everyone was pretty social. The rooms are decent size and the walk-in closets are nice. I don’t recall a library on the first floor, but I could be wrong. Aside from sharing a bathroom with 30-40 ppl, and the disgusting things some ppl do in those bathrooms, I enjoyed living in a Dickson single and I think most others agree.

Do we have to clean our own bathrooms? Or is that the responsibility of the janitorial staff?

As well, just to verify, there is no air conditioning at Clara D right? Does it get hot in the spring?

You don’t have to clean your own bathrooms. And yes, there’s no a/c, but if you have a fan, it’s fine.

Is there like a large lounge area where people can meet and socialize? Is there a TV room and kitchen?

Yes, there’s a lounge & kitchen on every floor.

this is not dickson hall. the library is in donlon’s first floor.

dickson does have a large laundry room with nice study tables. it also has a mini-lounge with a flatscreen panel on the wall.

the ground floor/basement of dickson has a nice loading dock for delivery of food (campusfood (dot) com) but it also has the best vending machines on north campus. YES you can use your BRB on it.

i’ll actually be in a single in mcllu next year.

I got a single at Clara D too, 3rd floor I think. I suppose that is good news.

Is Clara a social dorm and a good place to meet people? Is it more social than CKB and Mews?

:sigh: 10char

Yes, I’m very insecure.

“Is it more social than CKB and Mews?”
In general, ppl will say that it is more social. But it depends a lot on your floor/hall and those around you.

I lived in CKB my freshman year. It didn’t necessarily inhibit social activity, but I found Dickson and Donlon far more social. In fact, most of my friends now lived in Dickson and Donlon as freshmen. So, in short, I would say that Dickson is a great place to meet new people as long as you’re a friendly person.

Sweet I was kind of disheartened about not getting a single in Mews or CKB but after reading this I feel better =]

At Clara Dickson, are the floors co-ed by wing or door-to-door? Are the bathrooms co-ed too?

Same here roneald. I was dying for CKB/Mews (who wasn’t…) and ended up with a single in Donlon, but the more I think about it the more it grows on me.

“At Clara Dickson, are the floors co-ed by wing or door-to-door? Are the bathrooms co-ed too?”
all the males are grouped together and all the females are grouped together, so not co-ed door-to-door

the bathrooms are not co-ed
