I’ve been recently looking at the possibility of transferring to the one of the schools, Pitzer seems to be most suited to me, but I have a simple question related to majors. I have done as much research as I’d like but I figured I might start here.
I’m wondering, in no particular order, which CC offers the best theater program, which CC offers the best English program, philosophy program, and journalism program. Best is obviously subjective so I guess I’m looking for which has higher enrollment in each area, the amount of spotlight it puts on those majors, etc. I also may be misunderstanding how the theater major works at CC.
And this is unlikely but if by chance anyone knows of Loyola Marymount’s theater program I’m wondering how it might compare to whatever CC offers the best major. I’m aware they all use the same facility at Pomona.
I can’t answer all of your questions, but I’ll take a stab at a couple that highlight what makes the 5C setup pretty special. Not only does Pomona host the theater facilities for the 5Cs, it also runs all of the theater academics for all of the colleges as well - and about 400 students from all of the campuses participate in some theater activity during the year. None of the 5Cs have a journalism major per se, but there is a 5C Media Studies program/major, which involves taking classes at each of the campuses, and include everything from digital production to critical studies. There is a very vibrant extracurricular journalism “scene” at the 5Cs, much of which revolves around “The Student Life” and “Claremont Independent.” Both are staffed by students with varying majors from all of the 5Cs (I believe one of the TSL editors this year is a Pitzer English/Media Studies major). There are also a couple of video related outlets and a radio station that can be used by 5C students, and the amount of journalism done at those varies with student interest.
No that was great, thanks so much. Still curious which of the colleges provide the best program for those other majors if anyone knows. Not a big deal if not.
