Claremont McKenna Waitlist 2022

@uclalover06 also, I find it so cool that you live in Indonesia lol. Have you lived there your whole life?

@creampuff72 Yeah I heard the same thing about in-state waitlisted students so i’m pretty relieved i’m not instate hahaha! I cant believe you got waitlisted at SD and LA, you seem to be such a competitive applicant! But congratulations on USC! It was suchhhh a competitive school this year with a 12.9% acceptance rate so that’s super impressive. Both of my friends got rejected to USC and ended up committing to Wharton Upenn and Brown! And same with that “upper class middle area” I didn’t get ANY aid from where I applied but affording it financially would be a strain especially since my sister and younger brother still have school fees (bad public education in Indonesia) as well sister will be going off to college in 4 years! I did submit a LOCI and I hope that increases my chances, I submitted a video response too but that honestly may have hurt my chances because it was so badly made woth little effort because I procrastinated hahahaha. What major did you get into at CMC? Also, what other colleges were you accepted to if you don’t mind me asking? And yup, i’ve lived in Indonesian all my life! (my mom is Chinese-Indonesian and my dad is American) so im pretty excited to be moving to California this fall

@creampuff72 First off, congratulations are in order.

As for your choice, it really depends on what you want in the next 4 years. If you want a big school with a crazy social scene and Saturday football games, then go to Southern Cal. If learning and growing is your goal, then CMC is the clear choice. The 5C experience is amazing. You’ll be better prepared for work and grad school. The alumni network is not as big, but people who count will look at your resume and know you are capable, reliable, and smart. You’ll work harder as a college student at CMC, but the payoff is well worth it.

@uclalover06 thanks again, and i actually have no idea what major I’m in; the letter didn’t say anything at all about it. And wow Penn and Brown and were my dream schools thats so impressive. As for other schools, I got into: IU kelley, tulane, smu, northeastern, ucsb, ucd, cal poly slo, usc, cornell, and now cmc hahah. I got waitlisted at: ucla, ucsd, and nyu stern and rejected by: penn (ed - this one hurt), brown, a couple other ivies, uc irvine (?), and berkeley. I had absolutely no confidence in myself so I applied to a ton of schools lol. What about you? Also i think that demonstrating any interest can only help, since cmc really considers people who want to come, so that should work in your favor!

@84stag Thank you! I definitely think the atmosphere of CMC is more my style, the only thing I’m having a hard time letting go of is the polo team at USC. I’ve played polo (the horseback kind) for so long thats its a huge part of my life, and USC is one of the only schools that has a team. Its not smart to base my entire college decision on an extracurricular though, so I’m 90% sure I’ll commit to CMC sometime this weekend, and I hope to meet your kid there!

@creampuff72 I applied to 10 schools! I was accepted to UCSD, Boston University and UBC (In canada). I was waitlisted from UCLA, CMC and NYU and I was rejected from Berkeley, USC, Northwestern and Columbia ED. I’m really crossing my fingers for UCLA or CMC because they were both my dream schools.

@creampuff72 what were the 2 majors you applied to for CMC application?

@uclalover06 my first choice was econ, and my second choice was accounting, but since applying I have become more interested in poli sci, so I might switch to that. What about you?

@creampuff72 I applied for History and Government! Btw, did you decide to take the waitlist offer?

@uclalover06 No i actually didn’t. I came very, very close though. The first couple days after I was almost entirely sure I would take it, but then I did some intense research and at the end of it all usc and cmc were still completely tied for me. It also didn’t help that my mom was strongly pro-usc and my dad was strongly pro-cmc. I ended up choosing usc just because I have lived in the suburbs and gone to really small schools all my life, and since I couldn’t find any other way to decide between the two, i went with which school would be a different experience. I’m still not sure I made the right decision, but I would have had that feeling either way.

I’m a little surprised that the waitlist isn’t more active. CMC handed out 100 few acceptances this year than last. I guess more see the value in a great liberal arts school, with exposure to nearly any discipline or major, small class sizes, devoted and skilled professors, and exposure to graduate-level institutes.

@84stag I just got off the waitlist today! I’ll be attending this fall! I’m so excited

@creampuff72 Hey, I got off the waitlist today! Who knows, maybe your place was given to me! :stuck_out_tongue: Hope you have a great time at USC, and thanks so much for being my friend during this whole process x

@uclalover06 That’s fantastic news!! Time to change your screen name, right? You’ll love CMC and I wish you all the best. =D>

@uclalover06 Can you share your stats?

@Overtheline sure!

ACT: 32 (E:35 W:35 M:27 S:31)

GPA: I don’t know my GPA because I’m in the DP program but I am currently a 43/45. My Higher Levels are English Literature, Geography, History and Bahasa Indonesia B

A few of my important extracurriculars were leader of my school’s debate club, co-editor of the school newspaper, 4 years on the MUN and Moot Court Team, founder of a Clothing organisation and leader of the spirit committee in our Student Council.

I applied as a History/Government major

@uclalover06 omg i’m so happy for you!!! You definitely deserve it and I’m sure you’ll do amazing things at cmc

@uclalover06 Congrats! I just want to ask if you received a call or an email from Admission? And did you send any other materials to them?

@greencross Thank you!!! yup, I recieved a call and then I got an email about a half hour later about a status update. I sent them my updated senior grades as well as a really long and heartfelt letter of continued interest. Also, about a week before I got off, I got an email from collegeboard saying that Claremont was requesting my IDOCS and Tax forms. Good luck!!!

Anybody heard back from CMC?
