Clarification needed on Haas breadth requirements

I plan to fulfill my biological sciences breadth my first semester at Cal, and I signed up for Drugs and the Brain (MCellBi C62) with Mr. Presti. That course is 3 units. I happened to find ESPM 40 with Mr. Will, a 2 unit course, that fulfills the biological sciences breadth also. ESPM 40 fits my schedule better, so I was planning on dropping Drugs and the Brain.

I'm a prospective computer science or business major, and I was informed that 2 unit courses are not accepted by Haas to fulfill breadth requirements. Is this still the case?

I posted back at the other thread, but I'll just copy here as well

Found it from the Haas FAQ section:

Question: Do you have a list of specific courses that satisfy breadth requirements?

Answer: No, the Haas Undergraduate Program provides general definitions/guidelines for each breadth category and lists areas of study that can be used to satisfy the breadth requirements. Our breadth guidelines are very broad because we want you to have the flexibility to take courses that interest you. Our requirement is that you complete at least 7 breadth courses in order to be eligible for admission. Which courses you take and how you use them to complete the breadth pattern are up to you. Remember that each course must carry at least 3 semester units. Business courses, prerequisites, microeconomics and macroeconomics CANNOT be used for breadth and one breadth course cannot be used in two breadth areas simultaneously. Please visit our website at Haas Breadth Guidelines for additional information about Haas Breadth.

Thanks.

But ugh, why in the world did Haas put that important detail in the FAQ section and not in the actual admissions guidelines page?
Undergraduate Program - Admissions : Haas Breadth Guidelines - Haas School of Business

-_-

no rane for incoming freshmen it says to follow the L&S requirements EXCEPT for the listed stuff. since obviously it doesnt say anything about unit minimums u can check the l&s site and it does say u can take a 2 unit breadth so yes u can i would assume

hmm... now even more confusion...

seems that haas is changing its breadth reqs from a 9 course to 7 course. the 9 course breadth reqs say that courses must be 3 semester units or higher (<a href="http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/pdf/9-course-breadth-requirement.pdf)%5B/url%5D">http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/pdf/9-course-breadth-requirement.pdf)</a>. but maybe the 7 course breadth will follow L&S guidelines and be 2 units?

There could be a chance that the FAQ section is based off the old 9 course breadth reqs. I think you should just clarify all this with a Haas counselor... it's safer to ask rather than assume

Good point.

From what you posted, Ethan, that entry from the FAQ does seem to be written during when the 9 course breadth requirement was still in place, from where it says "complete at least 7 breadth courses in order to be eligible for admission."

I called Haas and they said that starting this year with the 7 breadth course requirements, since they're based off the L&S breadth requirements, 2 unit courses are accepted. Yay!
