Hi CCers I notice there is no forum for CAU so if anyone has any questions I am more than welcome to help!

Thanks for the offer.
How is CAU doing recovering from the severe financial problems of several years ago?

CAU's new president Walter Broadnax totally revamped everything within a very small period of time and brought the endowment back up to $33 million in one year. The financial problems are more a less a distant memory.
Also I think the severity of the financial problems were a bit exagerrated due to Morris Brown College ( An institution in the Atlanta University Center that lost it's accredidation due to financial problems). Losing Morris Brown was unfortunate and it seemed as though after they lost their accredidation everyone was looking around to see who was next.

CAU recently had a one million dollar donation from Alumni to build a new state of the art building. Research is booming with a recent 2.5 million dollar grant for Biomedical research. We also just partnered with the American Meteorological Society to create new and innovative scientific courses.

Overall CAU has been doing quite well in the past years and as always CAU continues their tradition of outstanding faculty (Former faculty including: WEB Dubois, Whitney M. Young Jr., Horace Mann Bond, etc. etc.) who truly care about each students progress and are amazing professors as well.

I'm glad to hear that things have improved. Thanks for the update!

I know this is a bit off topic, but how is Morris Brown's recovery? I haven't heard much recently and heard all hope was lost after Charles Taylor stepped down. Any good news yet?

I really wish I had heard something positive. I heard that Tom Joyner offered to buy the school but they denied him, and while they were in the middle of their financial maelstrom they followed some rule that was made when they were founded that they could only accept donations from some specific groups of people (can't remember what the stipulations were exactly).

There are still students at MBC and as far as I know they are working on their financial situation but it just gets so complicated when a few crooked people want to be greedy and steal money. It's truly a shame, Morris Brown College was the ONLY Historically Black College founded by Black people.
Overall in the Atlanta University Center Morris Brown is GREATLY missed! The AUC is definitely not the same without them! I was fortunate enough to have Morris Brown around my freshman year and then my sophomore year they lost their accredidation. There is a very very noticable difference, I truly hope everything works out okay so that future AUC students don't have to go through their college experience without Morris Brown.

What are they doing with the new stadium, because I remember that bridge connecting Morris Brown to Clark and all the money and spirit invested in it. Do the other schools use it?

Last I heard Georgia Tech uses Morris Brown's stadium as a practice field.
All of the other football teams in the AUC suck so it's better that GA Tech makes use out of it.

I've got to agree with editor Cynthia Tucker at the Atlanta Constitution; the loss of Morris Brown was inevitable because of the dreadful administration. The students were being bamboozled for a long time at that place. Any further attempts to resesitate Morris Brown as a traditional college is throwing good money after bad.

The folks there didn't care enough about the school's tradition to maintain integrity, personal or professional. The fact is, Georgia's black residents ae better served by money going to places like Georgia State University, where they can take advantage of an education at a much lower cost than had been charged at Morris Brown College.

Bump bump bumpity bump!

I just applied to CAU =)
i hope i get accepted.
i heard the dorm rooms suck tho.

The dorms are dorms, there's really nothing special about them. The only thing I really remember not liking is that if you went to take a shower in the morning during rush hour, you were bound to run out of hot water. Word to the wise: Take your shower at night. Other than that it's the regular dorm experience. I know my Freshman year and all throughout college, some freshman stayed in Beckwith which is really really nice, I hear now that freshman are also allowed to stay in the new East West apartments. They just finishing building them last year and they're supposed to be really nice suites/apartments. If I only had that option my freshman year.
