Are the Clark Conversations like a college interview? Or are they purely informational?

The reason I am asking this is because my mother and I are planning to visit next week, and the only day we can go, all of the appointments are booked.

I think they are interviews. I never actually toured campus before coming to school here, but based on what I read on the website, the clark conversation thing sounds like the thing I did. An alumni in my town interviewed me at a cafe. I don’t think they were called clark conversations when I did it though…

Thank you. I actually just found this on the Clark U visit FAQs:

Do Clark Conversations work like interviews at other schools?
Yes and no. Like other schools, Clark Conversations are a great way to create a personal connection with one of our students; but unlike many other schools, these conversations are informational and will not factor into your admissions decision. We find that this format takes much of the stress out of the process and encourages more open, honest discussions with our students.

I guess they don’t offer interviews anymore?

Hi! I’m a college freshman who recently went through this process, hang in there! I actually had a Clark Conversation with an alumnus who lived near me in Dallas. Little did I know, I was also interviewing for some serious merit (not need based) scholarship money that I ended up getting. They don’t advertise their scholarships very well in my opinion, but they do have quite a bit of money to give.

Think of it as another opportunity for you to come to our school and get a feel for the place by talking to one of our students. Its usually one on one informal conversation where its mostly time for you to ask and find out more about clark.

CarmaPurple, do they ask for an interview after your application is submitted if they are considering you for merit aid? My D was on campus recently and met with an admissions counselor, but because of transportation problems she couldn’t do the Clark Conversation. She really loved the school and might be a merit candidate… curious how it works and how serious the stats need to be for merit consideration.

In the fall of 2009, my son, now a freshman Clarkie , went to the Clark campus for an interview. I don’t recall that it was called a “Clark Conversation,” but he interviewed with a student. He had attended two previous open houses–the second time he went because a friend asked him to go. He had no other interviews. He was ultimately awarded excellent merit aid.
