iluvcake,

Do you know what the most important parts of the application are? Just out of curiosity. Thanks!

As a Clarkie alum, I can only guess/ suggest what I personally think is the most important. However, everyone’s different and there’s no one correct method or formula :). I would say that the a rigorous course load and good PSAT or SAT scores are one of the first they look for however, beyond that what differentiates people is to really show passion (sorry for the cliche) for research and the topic you’re applying for. Also the recs are also very important. I really like Clark b/c it gives people who perhaps has never gotten a chance to tryout research but is dying to explore it a chance to do so (unlike RSI, which I hear previous research experience is like a prequisite) Just my two cents :D

Looks like there wasn’t ever a ■■■■■. I got the exact same e-mail as Francesca with only my name in place of hers. I’m disappointed, but at the same time I’m relieved that I know this early so that I can start planning my summer for another camp. Good luck to the rest of you; I will definitely be applying again next year! I can’t wait to see what you new Clarkies have to say about your upcoming experience. :-D

TheJJ411: sorry to hear about that! D:
at least we now know they’re making the decisions OMMMGGG

@JJ: When did you get the email? Today? Or around the same time as Francesca? Good luck to all those still waiting and I’m sure everyone will plan a fun summer, with or without Clark’s :)

I got my denial a few hours ago. I think it’s insane that they only accept 3% of applicants… It was pretty much a waste of time doing the app -_-, and it’s only gonna be more selective next year…

what time do they contact you?

Even if (when ;)) I’m not accepted, I still think the experience of writing the essays and applying for this program and others was really valuable. As an added bonus I have essays I can use as templates and for ideas when the time that really counts (college apps) comes around.

^ I totally agree. Even if I don’t get in, the whole process of sitting down to write and revise my essays was really valuable. Definitely a heads-up for the college app process

Just curious, are there any professors involved in clark’s that focus on stem cells or neuroscience research?

I don’t know if this includes all the professors who take on students or not but you can at least start off here:
[url=http://www.clarkscholars.ttu.edu/people.htm]TTU Clark Scholars Program/url

Google-stalk or use the Texas Tech website to look up the professors in applicable departments. Or you can go the department page and look each up. When I did it in my subject I usually found a few sentences or so on what they were doing.

(Hope this helps, of course there is a good shot you’ve already done this :))

Who else here still hasn’t heard anything? I’m still waiting and I thought it might be nice to know anyone else in the same boat…

I haven’t either…not sure what to make of it :/

@BostonBoy95 and @truehype - I got my e-mail last night around 9 P.M.

@LonelyHapax and @jsjratt - I definitely agree! I had never been required to get reference letters, so that was definitely a new learning experience. I don’t think the application was a waste of time; if I hadn’t filled it out, I wouldn’t have even been considered.

Still nothing… looks like they’re going in waves…

They’re probably weeding out people due to having no good faculty match for them, or maybe they just didn’t like our essays, haha. Anyway, I’m guessing they’re narrowing down the possibilities right now, although I could most certainly be very wrong. I guess we’ll find out!

rejected…
great, now I can only either do research at Yale or continue my own research during the summer :’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’’((((((((((((((((
this is so depressing…

@NoObstacle I’m so sorry did you just find out or is the email from yesterday?

today 10char

This should give a rough idea on the acceptance quotas for each research interest. (Each professor accepts 1 student to research with him/her.)
