Clark Scholars 2013?

No, there has been no word from them about why decisions are taking so long this year. The question of whether or not to confirm with other programs is something a lot of us are probably dealing with right now. I think Clark Scholars must be overwhelmed, understaffed, and perhaps somewhat disorganized this year with the applications.

Has anyone besides StudiousMaximus committed to another program already?

Got my rejection letter… I would’ve thought my awards and passion would get me theough

In the mail??

Email. Actually they emailed my parents

Why did they email them? They didn’t email you? That’s so strange

That is strange. Did you put your parents’ email address under “Home Email” on the application? Because they only asked for one email

I guess so, although I’m not sure why I did… Has no one else heard back? Wow I feel like quite the loser with the first rejection.

Don’t feel that way. Getting accepted to a program like this (or a college, for that matter) depends a lot on what the program is looking for in a student. Plenty of awards, prior research, etc. will almost never be a ticket to this kind of program, and there are going to be a LOT of people declined.
But never see it as a rejection – it’s simply an opportunity to look forward to something new.

@piquantpeppers, are you a junior or senior?

Thanks Hoctopi for your comforting remarks. I’m a junior

I’m a junior, haven’t heard anything, checked my email, my parents’, spam box, not a thing. What is happening? SOOOOOOO anxious.
Anyone else heard anything, please?

I have not gotten any notification yet, but I hope that they will decide by the end of this week… I need to go in for a summer job interview soon if I don’t get in and I’m afraid all the returning college students will take the spots.

Does anyone have an idea of how long it takes them every year to send out the rejections/acceptances? I really want this process to be over as soon as possible.

There are over 380 applicants this year. I’d think they send out rejection emails first, then call the 36 finalists.

This was the rejection letter my DD got today afternoon at 3.32. Thankfully, she got admitted and has committed to another program this summer. Good Luck to all of you who have not heard from them yet. May be you are still in the running!

Thank you very much for your application to the Clark Scholars Program at Texas Tech University. We received over 380 applications from over 30 states and 10 foreign countries and are able to select only 12. It is a very difficult selection process this year and although your application was seriously considered your application was not selected. Your academic credentials are very impressive and we wish we could accept more applicants. There is also the difficulty of finding mentors for some, as many of our faculty travel during the summer months. The Clark Scholars Program will be offered again next summer and since you are a junior this year if you are still interested you are strongly urged to re-apply.

Again, I want to thank you for your interest in our program and for your willingness to take the time to complete the application. Please accept our thanks for the opportunity to examine your credentials. We also want to congratulate you on your scholarly success thus far and express our hope that you will continue your excellence in academics.

But how long does it take for all the rejections to come out? A week? A few days?

Thanks a lot for sharing, glad your DD had a backup plan. One clue here is that they cannot find mentors for some of the programs, so if you selected those, the chances are even lower. I wish it was program independent.

I wish they would just make the decisions instead of choosing 36 finalists; this is really putting a damper on us time-wise. Does anyone else agree? For me at least, I have a lot of other things I need to plan if I’m rejected but I can’t do so until I receive notification.

Agreed, Sardpnyx, still I wasn’t affected by Clark while doing other things or preparing for other programs.
