Class besides Bio 1B for pre-health?

So many pre-health careers require 1 year of Biology and for most Berkeley students the obvious choice is Bio 1B and 1A. My major (Moltox) however doesn't require Bio 1B and I have heard from many students that Bio 1B is not that useful especially when taking it after Bio 1A and having taken AP Bio. I was wondering if any MCB/IB class with a lab counts towards that 1 year Bio requirement and was hoping if anybody can recommend me some substitutes for Bio 1B. Will I be at a disadvantage when applying to schools if they see that I didn't take 1B and instead took a different bio class? Thanks!

I think you need the bio 1b. not sure… hmm
should i major in mol tox?

no you can sub the bio 1b for some other bio class i’m pretty sure

o. hm
hey calbear2012. what’s in the black box we were suppose to look at for vedita?

What black box?

the box was a UV light box. inside it was a little glowing flask of acetone extracted chloroplast pigments. question 8 on the lab write up asks you what color it is.

Under long UV it’s red, under short it’s violet and under normal non-UV it’s green.

Cool thanks. uv box.

Hey LH, you’re an IB major right? Thanks to your PM a few months ago, I’m now an IB major too instead of MCB lol.

How are the IB upper division classes, from your experience?

I’m so excited to start taking IB UDs. Some of them sound really fun.

@jb: like which ones?

I’m mainly looking forward to classes that are more specialized like Mammalogy, Ornithology and Herpetology. Also, Animal Behavior and Biological Oceanography. I’m kind of an animal person, so those all sound like fun to me.

I’ve already planned out my 4 year schedule with all the classes I want to take. I’m hoping the re-structuring of the IB major doesn’t completely screw things up.
