<p>What is the penalty grade associated with dropping or withdrawing from a course?</p>
<p>“Dropping” means you’ve formally removed yourself from the class during the add/drop period, which is in the first two weeks of class. It’s gone from your record and will never appear anywhere.</p>
<p>“Withdrawing” becomes available after that; you can drop the class, but it appears with a “W” grade on your transcript. It has no impact on your GPA, but it DOES impact your credit load (for example, if you’re full-time carrying only 12 credits, you can’t withdraw from a class, because it will drop you below full-time)… however, it may impact future plans. Grad schools don’t typically like to see Ws on transcripts.</p>
