I just dropped a class and after reading the information about dropping a class, it says that the class will still appear on the transcript saying it was dropped, but there will be no penalty. Does this look bad when applying to graduate schools and applying for jobs?

I’m assuming you dropped during add/drop? It doesn’t look bad at all, to my knowledge. The two week add-drop period is specifically there for students to adjust and change their schedule as needed for the semester. Now a ‘W’ (Withdraw) on the other hand will show up and have negative impact if you have more than one.

Job applications rarely ask for a transcript anyway. Regardless, people drop classes for many reasons.

Hi mv200693,

If you dropped the course before the add/drop deadline, the course will not show up on your transcript (because no grade is awarded).

If you withdraw from a course, you receive a “W” grade on your transcript.
