When do we fill out the housing applications, and do we get to choose the housing or is it random?

they are up online if you have your UVa login. I filled out my application a few days ago and I was able to choose.

How do you get the UVa login? Can I call UVa and ask them for one?

Thank you.

So, like, if you sign earlier, do you get better housing? Like...do they run out of spots @ the old dorms?
Also, when is the deadline?
And when did people start housing?

No. The housing is done as a lottery at one date for all those who turned in their applications prior to it (june 17 I think, but don't quote me on it). After the date, it's whatever's availible.

They usually try to pair students by asking 4 questions -- I think to the extent to "How clean are you? Messy, Moderate, Neat" "Do you smoke? Do you mind if your roommate smokes?" "Are you a morning or night person" and then "What would you prefer your room be used for? Socializing mostly, Mixture, Studying mostly"

The real kicker is the morning/night question - because sleep schedules are crazy. The basics gist is that if you put 'night' you might get a roommate that is up till dawn every night (if they come home at all) and if you put morning you might get a crazy person who is up and running at like 7AM. The first case is much more likely than the second, in my experience -- so if you like to sleep before 2AM, i'd say you are a morning person; i'm glad i did.

They don't 'run out' of old dorms - people are usually pretty evenly split on whether they would rather live in old dorms or new dorms -- I said I wanted 'new dorms' and was really looking forward to the larger rooms, suite style, and the built-in closets! but I actually got placed in Old Dorms. AND I know people that requested old dorms and got new dorms. So everyone living on grounds is a little confused on how housing works.

As for the deadline -- It doesn't matter if you apply today, two weeks from now, or the day before the deadline -- As long as you meet that date, everyone then goes into process together so applying earlier doesn't give you preference.

Okay - question for those that have applied for housing -- are they giving you the option of selecting "Alderman Road" versus "McCormick Road" or do you just have the option of "First year residence halls"
-- I know housing was talking about just having one choice to try to break up the sterotype that Old Dorms are more social while New dorms are more diverse; and I was just curious if they actually did change it.
