@cellomom6 oh, yeah no it wasn’t a clerical error. I called with my mom and my mom talked to them about how it was really, just common courtesy (not those exact words, but basically) to inform when someone has been waitlisted. They replied with that it’s just how their system works…so I guess that’s that!
@oscar63 now that I’ve been accepted/declined/waitlisted to all the schools I applied to/got called back to, I have to think of the expenses rationally. At the moment, I have a full ride to UM, which is a half hour drive from my house. That means I wouldn’t have to pay a cent for four years, and I have an amazing voice teacher here in Miami whom I would hate to leave, especially since he is the one who has molded me, and who has helped me and many others reach their goals.
It is a tough decision, but if I went to Juilliard, even with a full scholarship, I would have to put in many expenses. Expenses that my parents and I have come to estimate is in the least $15,000 with the most being around $25,000. Of course, this would include somewhere to live, food to eat, and transportation to, well, everywhere. I mean it’s New York City, you can’t exactly get a car, it’s kind of pointless.
Also, we have come to the conclusion that hopefully, if they want me now, they’ll want me later as well. I’m only 15, in case I hadn’t mentioned that before, and NYC is a big city…way bigger than Miami.
There are plenty more factors that come into play, but those are the basics for me, at least. An alternative is my family move with me so that they wouldn’t be afraid of sending me off into NYC at 15…but that would be an even higher cost…
Anyways, in the end, my financial situation is extremely poor, and my family struggles to pay for my voice lessons, not to mention now the possibility of $25,000 in NYC? I’m not cruel. That wouldn’t be very fair on my parents (although, yes, they said they’d find a way, but no, I wouldn’t let them).
So I think once all those factors come into play, it is a very hard choice, but it’s one that must be made. Either way, I believe wherever I end up is where I was meant to be, and it will all work out in the longrun, even if it’s not what I initially hoped for.
