bingo @OperaAdri . That is exactly why I knew Roosevelt was the school for me!
@iluvpiano post it here!
Iluvpiano, did you get the package you wanted? I don’t think you posted about it from your other thread
Hey people, I can’t wait to hear your final decisions… don’t forget to post them here for us!!!
Also, the fact that I can’t like my own post makes me sad. (ColCon yelled at me and say I “can’t react to my own post”)
Lol paintbrush22.
I still haven’t heard any aid #s. How long do I wait until I bug the school about it?
I would call. It is past April first. I called and they gave me the information I needed.
You may post the Final Decisions here or PM them to me. I was thinking that it kept the list neater to PM them, but things have strayed off track anyway so I don’t suppose it matters all that much now.
are schools supposed to notify you even if you have no scholarship? I had to call school today and they told me scholarship notifications had all already gone out and I didn’t get one. Shouldn’t they have told me? That really holds up the decision making process.
That being said, my final decision is NONE OF THEM! I’m going to start a flute studio.
Have other MM applicants heard about money from all their schools? Cause I haven’t yet.
Exactly flute123. We didn’t hear from one place. I had to call to find out it was zero, but after the first round of declines, they start giving out next week. I can’t say that sounds very appealing. A polite note notifying what is going on would have been appreciated.
I would just call iluvpiano. I did. They can at least give you a time it will reach you.
One of the saddest pieces of mail my d received was one stating that there was no scholarship money for her at one school. Sad as it was, it at least provided clarity. I’d much rather have that. We’re still waiting for the financial aid information (scholarship) from one school. I think I should have her call tomorrow. It’s been long enough.
Parents of undergrads can call the schools to find out financial/scholarship information and it is perfectly proper for you to do so; after all, no one is expecting the kid to pay the full shot themselves. Grad students, you need to be handling those matters for yourselves. And by this time, anyone who hasn’t heard from a school, please, pick up the phone and inquire- don’t wait and drive yourselves crazy.
I appreciated the way Ithaca handled it. Right around the end of March we got a letter that showed the cost of the attendance, stated that we could get a Federal guaranteed loan, and showed the net amount we’d need to come up with. It was clear that there wasn’t any merit scholarship, which of course was disappointing, but it was a very clear presentation of costs and delivered in a timely manner. It came about 2-3 weeks after the offer of admission, but before the end of March.
CCPA also handled it very well. The financial offer was included with the offer of admission, and again delivered on a timely basis. They have also followed up with several emails regarding the deadlines and process for accepting the offer.
I’m a bit surprised that the “best practices” for how this is done aren’t well established and followed consistently across the schools. During the application process, I was surprised at how different schools were in the tools they used, and that some required us to fill in data on 3 different websites (Common App, a music portal using a different interface, and then an upload site for prescreen videos). Now it seems like on the back end they also differ significantly in the way that they provide admissions and financial aid information.
@FriscoFred are you guys close to a decision?
It is surprising and to me inefficient and counterproductive. If you have a waiting list for merit as people decline their offers, wouldn’t you want the disappointed musicians with the initial zero merit to stick around by informing them about your process?
Hi, I’m new on this site. Any advice for vocalist who has admission to SUNY Purchase Jazz, New School Jazz, NYU Tisch Clive Davis Recorded Music and Loyola New Orleans?
S applied to and auditioned at six schools for his MM last year. All schools had sent financial offers within a week of the acceptance (the financial offers usually showed up within a week of admission). By March 15 all of his admissions and money offerings offers were in. He asked for more $$ at three schools. Two indicated that they would not know until after the April 15th deadline for grad school acceptances; another said there would be no additional offerings of money. The two that offered more after the deadline for acceptance only offered a few thousand more.
Like with undergraduate general admissions, most graduate programs overadmit students with scholarship or assistantship offerings knowing that they will have a predictable yield (for argument say 30% ) of those offered admission and scholarship. The schools really don’t have anything to loose with this type of set up and they may gain some full fee students who did not have financial offers anywhere and elect to come with no aid. Sometimes additional $$ does come through, though. I wouldn’t say the deal is over until a few days after April 15th. I feel for those of you waiting. S had friends that had small offers which they turned down. Some took a year to get better at their music and have had much better success the second time around.
@momsings, yes we have made a decision. I’m not posting it yet because our D has her private vocal lesson tomorrow and wants to tell her teacher first before we put it on the site.
