does u of i look at unweighted grade? i didn't think they recalulated...ne one else who got into LAS that would like to share their stats??

thanx Swamifez =] my stats:

From above: "does u of i look at unweighted grade?"

Weighted or unweighted makes little difference because it considers class rank and test score as most important. To the question, "In my school, I took the most vigurous course schedule with lots of AP's and honors but, as a result, my class rank is not near the top because those high-ranking students took easy courses to get all A's, so why is considering class rank fair?" the answer given is: "Our experience in those situations is that the student who has taken that vigurous schedule will do better on the ACT or SAT than those who have not and thus will not have any real disadvantage."

That seems like a ridiculous answer to me because if your class rank is too low, or too much out or range, there's a pretty good chance they may not accept you. That's how it is at my school, you have the kids, like myself, taking several AP Courses that are ranked the same or lower than a kid that took sewing circles and food prep for four years. I'm still in the range for UIUC, but I should be much higher if my GPA and Class Rank were weighted. Majority of kids I know from other schools that weigh just have their weighted Ranks/GPA's on them.

hey masterchief,

my stats:
SAT: 1280 (I don't know why I always do bad on tests)
GPA: 4.2 Weighted 3.9 Unweighted
EC's: Okay, but not mind-blowing, I had a couple of volunteering things and then three extracurriculars.
Essay: I thought it was really good.
But I doubt they even looked at my essay, because they got my app Oct. 31, then they got my transcripts Nov. 17 (Postmarked around Nov. 2, they gave in-state students some leeway in terms of getting they transcripts in even after the priority deadline, according to my counselor.)

I checked on Nov. 20 and found out I was accepted.

Major: Biology (Pre-med)

heyy those of u already accepted, how do my chances look for las?

Stats:

gpa-3.75
sat 1240
act 27
top 19%
upward grade trend- fresh n soph: 3.57 n 3.7, junior: 3.8 and 4.33
business club
drug prevention club
volunteer work
work experience
they received everything from me around oct 25..still reads pending decsion...what do u guyz think?

I think you should be able to get in. Some of the people from school who got accepted had worse stats than you.

Monobala, I'm sure you will get in. Your Class rank is a tad low, but your ACT is above average, so you should get in. You must go to a pretty competive school if you have a 3.75 and you are in the top 19 percent.

yaaa it is competitive, not to mention i think something got messed up on my transcript cuz my teacher went to change my english grade from an B to an A, and the same thing for my spanish teacher (they made major mistakes) and so my gpa went up, but my rank stayed the same? weird. anyways, i was just worried bc so many people here got there responses already n i turned mine in before some of them..oh well, admissions works in strange wayz i guess
~mona~

Someone asked for my stats:

GPA: 4.6 W, 3.85 UW
SAT: 1470
ACT: 34
School doesn't rank but in top 5%
8 AP Classes
Lots of ECs (cross country, irish dance, international relations club, mock trial, campus ministry, etc.) plus work experience

I applied to LAS as an international relations major.

Nice Stats, Smeds. You think you will be attending UIUC ?

Just wondering, is UIUC anyone's first choice? If not, then what is? And what's UIUC's rank on your list of schools?

UIUC is pretty much number one on my list. I just really like it up there, and i'm an Illinois resident so it's just a couple hours away. Just seems to fit me well.

Regards,

Yeah the more I look at it the more I'm starting to like it. I think I could really see myself in the blue and orange next year. Being in-state helps, I don't really wanna pay the out-of-state fees.

Originally, UIUC was my 2nd (or perhaps 3rd place). Ever since I found out that I had been admitted on Thanksgiving, I have been doing quite some research about the school. And the more I know about it, the more I seem to be in love with it. Right now, it's climbing to the top of my list.

For for those who haven't done so already, also check out the 'Campus Overview' on UIUC's website!

Yeah, I'm in the same boat with you. I wasn't sure how U of I's Bio/Pre-Med program was, so I checked out some stats and found out according to Gourman's (sp?) Reports that their Pre-Med program was ranked at # 7. I know the reports are really old, but it could not have fallen that much over the past few years. So I'm glad I will be going to a realtively inexpensive college (compared to some other puclic and private schools). I'm ready to join the Illini!!

UIUC is my safety school. I'm also applying to: (ranked in order of preference)

University of Virginia
Duke
Yale
Princeton
Columbia
Cornell
Vanderbilt
Wake Forest

I don't know yet if I'll be going to UIUC . . . I've always realy wanted to go to Georgetown, but Illinois is just so much cheaper and makes a lot more sense, plus I get a ton of AP credit at Illinois. But I'm still waiting to hear from Gtown and the other schools I've applied to, so we'll see!

btw...for those of you who have already been accepted, were you notified by email, or did they send you the package?

You check your status online. It says Pending:Admit. They also send your package in the mail after a week of being accepted.
