I registered for the Common App, figuring that I'd get a headstart on applications stuff, so I can start as soon as possible.

When I registered, I had to select the "not planning to enroll in 2012" bubble, but now I'm wondering if this changes at any point.

I'm currently a junior, but will I get the chance to change this when the Common App changes for the class of '13, or will I have to re-register with a new username?

Mzhang, you will need to create a new CommonApp when the new version goes live this summer. The current version can be helpful, but be aware that some schools may change their supplementary essay prompts. My advice is to start working on your main “personal” essay now and throughout the early part of this summer, along with your “activity” essay. In addition, you can use this time to start making a list of all your extracurricular activities, along with which years you participated in each, and how many hours a week and weeks per year you devoted to them. All this is pretty time consuming and should keep you busy until the new CommonApp is available. Good luck!

I had just made an account to ask this exact question. Thanks!

All current CA data will be dumped in June–nothing will carry over. New version (2012-13) will be available about August 1. Typically there are .PDF previews of the next version available in about June, so you can get an idea of what will be required, but you won’t want to enter data until the new version goes live.
