Student Gender: Female

Home State: Colorado

Date Applied: October

Date Accepted: Last week (my school didn’t send my transcripts until then, but once they got to UA, it only took 3 days for a response)

Have you visited the campus?: No (hopefully will get to over spring break)

Major: Environmental Science, will most likely change

Applying to the Honors College?: Yes

Career goal(s): Still figuring it out

Any else you’d like to mention: Presidential Scholarship. Still waiting for responses from my top choices, but Alabama is high on my list because of their (fantastic) merit aid.

DS got his acceptance letter in the mail, and another letter awarding the presidential. He just got an email saying no scholarship application was received, must complete by Dec 15. We’re confused.

We got the same email! We are confused as well since my son was accepted back on September 5th. We also have the scholarship letters too. I will be checking on this Monday, it could be that he needs to finish his Fellows essays.

I would get the scholarship app in if you haven’t yet submitted. I know that you’ve already have seen the “letters”, but the school seems to want you all to submit the scholarship app.

It only takes a couple of minutes…a parent could do it. Don’t worry about listing a bunch of stuff (awards/ECs)…If you feel like adding a couple in, then do so…but get it submitted.

When I sign in to mybama and go to academics/scholarship application it says “Thank you for submitting your scholarship application to The University of Alabama for the 2015 - 2016 academic year.” Also, we submitted the scholarship info back in July. Hmmmmm

Send an email to amber.capell@ua.edu and ask about the confusion. Include full name and CWID

We received the same e-mail and also have an e-mail from September saying that his scholarship application had been received.

I got the email too…

Glad I am not alone. Received email on 11/13 saying “we have received your scholarship application” and this week received another email saying “we have not yet received your scholarship application”. Confused since up to this point UA has been so great with clear, consistent, and accurate information. I’m assuming it is some sort of mass email error.

I just had a quick question for anyone who goes to UA. Have you had any difficulties getting to and from the airport? I know theres a shuttle to and from the airport but currently my parents number 1 reason against Bama is that its too far from the airport and I will have difficulties getting home??? Any type of personal experience would be GREATLY appreciated.

There is a Crimson Ride shuttle run by UA during the school holidays (Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Winter Break, etc.). Otherwise, students arrange their own rides through the rideshare boards on the UA intranet or on a very active Facebook Rideshare Group. Parents also request rides for their kids on the very active Parents FB group. The system works very well and almost anyone who request rides to the airport can get them free or charge or for a small price for gas. The rideshare system works well for long distance travel too. My son found a ride back home here in the DC area from UA over the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Crimson Ride shuttle works very well getting students back and forth to the airport. When making plane reservations, look up the shuttle times so that you’re choosing a departure time from Bham and an arrival time back to Bham. Obviously, you wont’ want to choose an arrival time that has you getting to Bham at 3 am if there’s no shuttle at that time…lol…not that you’d want to choose a red-eye flight anyway!

The UA airport shuttle system has greatly improved over the years. It used to be that one couldn’t leave BHM early in the morning or land in BHM late at night and take the shuttle as the shuttles weren’t timed for those flights, but that has since changed. The increased availability of rideshares has also made things a lot easier.

It takes 65 minutes to get from UA to BHM, give or take 5 minutes. There’s not much traffic along the route, so those of us from areas with lots of traffic might look at the 60 mile distance and think how that can take 3+ hours during our rush hours, even though that’s not the case in Alabama.
