@Co1ton I don’t think they were acceptance letters, I think they were to let us know that our applications are being reviewed. They don’t send out acceptance emails to my knowledge. It should be any day now, though!

I spoke with the Upper Midwest representative this week. He sent us the same email today, so it must be a generic mass mailing to those who have applied. What he told me is that they are going to start deciding on applications after Labor Day and that we should hear from UA within two weeks. Much later than last year… my conjecture, based partly on statistics from the school’s fact book, which shows a sharp upturn in applications over the past five years, is that their applications are through the roof this year. In other words, they’re swamped.

The word is OUT. Happy families are telling their friends and neighbors, and UA has become a hot school, especially for kids looking for merit money. Good luck to all those applying!

Once my son visited UA (and subsequently told all of his friends at school last year) there were 7 students from his school accepted as class of '14. The UA Regional Recruiter has now scheduled a presentation at his school for next week for the next crop (class of '15) and the 25 available seats were filled in a matter of hours. DS is a probable NMF, which certainly influenced his views because of the way they’ve interacted with him, but he’d still feel strongly positive either way. In the SAT tutoring class he’s employed with, many of it’s students are asking him questions about Alabama all of the time now. The cat is definitely out of the bag down here!

Have you visited the campus?: Yes. Took a trip down in late June. Campus is beautiful! People were very nice: in Honors, visiting with History professor, etc.

Major: History/Classics/Languages

Applying to the Honors College?: yes

Career goal(s): Writer/Historian

Any else you’d like to mention: SAT 2270, HS varsity XC but may try crew in college.

Any else you’d like to mention: I come from a very competitive school/district and have a 3.1 GPA. I took pre-calculus (2.7), chemistry (3.0), Intro to Engineering (4.0), and Principles of Engineering 1 (3.3), currently taking calculus and physics. 1070 SAT scores (out of 1600) Math 570, Reading 450. Took the ACT, composite score of 23, Math was a 27, English was 19. English test scores not on the high end, but English classes GPA ~3.0. Taking them both again in October. What are my chances of being accepted and can any financial aid be expected? Thanks

^^
Welcome! You will likely be accepted, but you won’t qualify for any merit scholarships. Is that what you were asking about?

@MpkDad (are you the parent or student? ) How much will your family pay towards college? Publics generally don’t give need-based aid to cover the OOS costs. The OOS costs are charged for a reason - the family doesn’t pay taxes in the state. It would make little sense for a school to charge OOS rates and then cover them with need-based aid. Does that make sense?

According to Niche, Alabama received the same overall letter grade ranking as Stanford, MIT, UC Berkeley, the Ivy schools and other top LAC and universities.

Applying to the Honors College?: Yes & CBHP

Career goal(s): Chemical Engineer, MBA…& or Medical School

Any else you’d like to mention: Likely NMF who’s family would love for him to spend a few years with the great people associated with U. of Alabama!
