Just checked and I have a student tab! The only thing is that my application and scores have been sent in since July but my transcript just got processed yesterday. Would they have already accepted me?

See message 156 above. That will show you how to check for sure.

If housing applications start Oct 1 (like they did last year) put in application early. That way you get first dibs at electronic access to sign up for housing when that ‘happens’ for fall 2015. The school will indicate which dorms are honors. You can look at dorm buildings and find out charges, amenities, and make decisions. My DD is class of 2018 and we put in housing application Oct 3 (forgot to do it Oct 1, 2) - we had electronic access 1 1/2 hours after electronic access began. With our 3 confirmed room-mates, was able to sign up the 4 room suite assigning all 4.

Yes the school has a quick turn around if only waiting for one item like transcript. You will receive confirmation items in the regular mail…besides checking with your electronic access.

I just paid my enrollment deposit. Does paying this early mean I automatically get to choose my dorm with other people who have paid early? Is there another step that I’m missing? Or is first choice solely up to who applies first once it opens in October and not who paid the deposit first?

Also, would looking for roommates be a good idea or should I leave it to chance? I know absolutely no one in/going to Bama.

It is not paying the enrollment deposit that puts you in line for choosing housing. It is paying the housing deposit at a certain hour of the morning of October 1. When that opens, those payments will determine the order of housing choice. In early spring you will receive your assigned time in April for when to log into the housing site and choose your room.

That is only the first step.

The NEXT step puts you in line for housing…and that is applying for housing on Oct 1. The later you do this the farther back in line you are.

So there is no benefit to paying the enrollment deposit early?

No, not really. The benefit would be in not being hit with both the enrollment and housing deposits at the same time.

Here’s a checklist, but the only thing you can do now is pay the enrollment deposit. You’ll have to pay the enrollment deposit before you can submit the housing deposit when it opens.

<a href=“Freshman Steps to Enrollment – Admissions”>http://gobama.ua.edu/steps/freshman-checklist/

Housing generally begins accepting deposits on October 1. There IS an incentive to pay that ASAP once it opens. You’ll absolutely want to pay the housing deposit ASAP…no later than February 1…but the closer to October 1st the better if you want a specific type of housing such as Honors or suite style. Confirm any questions with Housing.

So enrollment deposit is NOT refundable. What about housing deposit? Is it refundable?

Yes, all but $25 of the Housing deposit is refundable if requested by the designated date.

Here’s a snip from the link (just substitute the school year):

As an incoming freshman, how do I apply for housing for the 2014/2015 academic year?
The online housing application became available beginning at 12:00 noon CDT on October 1, 2013. You must submit a complete application, including the housing contract and the $300.00 deposit ($25.00 application fee and $275.00 housing prepayment) in order for Housing and Residential Communities to receive your application and in order for you to be eligible for on campus housing. You will receive e-mail notification beginning in February regarding how you will receive your housing assignment. Please note, your official e-mail address as an incoming freshman is your crimson e-mail, so HRC will communicate with you using this e-mail address. Please be sure to check it regularly.

Where do I find the online application?
To apply for housing, click here and log in, using the user name and password assigned by Undergraduate Admissions.

When should I submit my housing application?
You should apply for housing as soon as you are admitted to the University and pay the Freshman Enrollment Deposit. The earlier that you apply for housing, the more options you will have, as access to online room selection and housing assignment by HRC staff are based primarily on housing application date. Students with earlier application dates can pull in confirmed roommate choices with later dates, if space is available. Incoming freshmen who apply for housing by February 1 will be able to select their own rooms online, beginning in early May. Students who apply for housing after February 1 will be assigned by HRC staff, taking into consideration their housing preferences, as long as space permits, beginning in mid-May. Students who apply for housing after April 1, 2014, may receive a housing assignment in the late spring or summer.

Is there a deposit due with my application?
A $300 deposit is due with your housing application. This includes a $25.00 non-refundable application fee and a $275.00 prepayment. If you do not attend UA and cancel your housing application by May 1, 2014, you will receive a refund of $275.00. If you cancel your housing by June 1, you will receive a refund of $175.00. To cancel your housing application, you must submit a cancellation request through the HRC web site.

B

Can you fill out the application for Housing now…and pay the deposit on Oct. 1st…or is the application not available until the 1st?

The application isn’t usually open until October 1st.

Thanks

Quick question. I’m taking the ACT again next Saturday to try and get into the final tier of merit aid qualification. (I got a 31 in June). Should I wait til the results of this next test before applying? Or if I get accepted will they accept a higher score after the acceptance (that is if I get a higher score)? Is the amount of Merit Aid I get locked in based on my stats during application? Thank you

UA will accept a higher score and award you that scholarship should you score higher, even if you’ve already applied and been admitted, provided that testing date is one eligible for scholarship consideration. Be sure to send UA the test score and complete the UA scholarship application.

Has everyone who found out they were accepted on September 2 received a letter in the mail? I still have not told my daughter I saw where she’s been accepted on MyBama and it’s getting very hard to see her go to the mailbox every day and not have anything there. She doesn’t want to go online. She wants to see a letter. Thanks!
