Class of 2006: Colleges?

is it better to apply early for a match college or just apply to reach college?

i heard it would be safer to apply early for match and get in and apply to the reach college that i want to go..

ED to Pton (probably gonna be rejected)
and Stanford, UC Berkeley, WUSTL, Brown, and JHU. this is tentative and probably will change come this April, when we find out our SATs.

kimjm-white27: I'm assuming when you say "apply early" you mean Early Action and not Early Decision. Your reasoning seems sound to me but you should keep in mind that EA/ED is always a tad more competitive for the top 20 colleges in the USA because the applicants tend to have higher statistics. Of course, you could always apply EA to more than one school - to a match and to a reach; I think it's ultimately your decision.

EA cornell, EA nyu, johns hopkins, rice, emory, suny binghamton, maryland, georgetown, carnegie mellon, Stonybrook

potomac20854: Cornell University and New York University only offer ED as far I know; or in other words, you can only apply to one of those universities under ED.

which colleges offer EA? i know stanford does it. who else?

harvard brown yale

Yay... I'm a non-science person!
I'll be applying for honours in political science, peace & conflict studies, international development and globalization, etc... something like that... you get the picture.

Applying to: McGill, Queen's, Ottawa, King's (at Dal), Dal, U Vic, possibly others... I'm not worried about getting in at all, because admissions in Canada are mostly marks based, and I am doing good in that department. I am worried about getting scholarships though... competitiveness... ick.
Also, I haven't decided whether or not to go international... (depends on UWC app status... see below) I would apply to Oxbridge, but probably nothing in the US, because, truthfully, it doesn't interest me to live there. I will be getting an IB diploma and doing damned well on it (because I plan to!), so I'll have some type of internationally recognizable symbol of education (easier admission I hope).

However, I applied this year for a scholarship to do the IB program at one of 10 United World Colleges... which, while being completely amazing becaue I would live in another country, would push me back to 2007 for uni. So it might all change. Or it might not (my parents aren't to happy about me wanting to leave). Mmmmm life.

filmxoxo17: Brown University only provides the option of ED and no EA.

It must be noted though that Harvard, Yale, and Stanford only provide SCEA; or in other words, you can only apply to one of those schools for EA.

wishful_thinker: Most schools which don't offer ED offer EA. Out of the top 25 schools, the following also offer EA, but unlike HYS, you are free to apply to as many schools EA as you wish:

Massachusetts Insititute of Technology (#5)
California Institute of Technology (#8)
University of Chicago (#14)
University of Notre Dame (#18)
Georgetown University (#25)

princeton, harvard, mit, jhu will be rejected and end up at rutgers.

MSU and UM, WUSTL, Duke, Caltech, MIT, HYP

Stanford, UPenn, JHU, WUSTL, Duke, UM

Northwestern, UMICH, USC, Boston U, Drexel, American, GWU and maybe less or more

ty wallflowers. do you guys think that EA's going to become more popular by next year or will it take a while?

Jeez. So much prestige on this thread.

Small liberal arts colleges for me...

Grinnell, Kenyon, Hamilton, Whitman, and Centre.

I think these schools are all great for me.

White Materia: I wouldn't go far as it to call it "prestige" on this thread because you must keep in mind that these are preliminary lists. Most of us have chosen these colleges because we are most familiar with them; however, with more research this semester and this upcoming summer, I'm sure our lists are bound to change. :)

Haha. I know that. Still, I think it's peculiar ninety percent of the people's lists all consist of only Ivy or similar calibur schools, no?

Right now I'm looking at these, in order of preference:

Princeton (ED)

Other reaches: MIT, Yale
More reasonable reach: Vanderbilt
Match: U Florida
Safeties: Florida Tech

I need more matches. Any ideas?

Right now I'm a white floridian female with a 1520 SAT (790M/730V), ranked 1/450, 300+ service hours, club leadership positions, 10+ APs by graduation, work 20/hrs a week, etc.

I'm interested in mathematics, physics, and electrical engineering.

White Materia: I would have to agree with you wholeheartedly.

hamster: won't you probably get a full-ride on bright future's for U of F?
