Looking at the "Class of 2009 Where are you applying" thread I feel like an outcast since it seems like EVERYONE is applying to ivies, even some ALL ivies. All I need to say is have fun getting your rejection letters.

I agree, the people here are crazy. I am not definitly sure but I plan on applying to: Bates, Colby, Holy Cross, Boston College, and Connecticut College.

What a great list of schools, rrrrrice! I've heard Pomona referred to as a West Coast "Ivy," and its acceptance rate is certainly heading into that territory. (I believe it was something around 18% in 2007.) ... Barak Obama started off at Occidental before transferring to Columbia because of his major. Occidental and Davidson give outstanding merit scholarships. I know the other schools on your list are outstanding as well. (Also look at Carleton, Reed, Oberlin, Vassar, and Grinnell.) Good luck next year!

I'm glad this thread is already getting some support :) And thanks Hindoo! Pomona's acceptance rate was actually 16% this year. It's like a "yeah, riiight" school for me, but one can only hope!

My daughter was accepted for 2007-08, but ended up at Carleton. I think her "hook" for Pomona was, in addition to great test scores, grades, etc., she was from Kentucky--and Pomona is underrepresented by students from the southeast. A few years ago, my niece from California was waitlisted at Pomona. She was valedictorian of her class, Girl's State, NMF, you name it. They told her it was unbelievably competitive for a California student to get in. So, wherever you live rrrrrice, you might look at schools in other parts of the country, where your presence on campus would help with their diversity!
