It seems as if all the old people have left........so I just wanted to welcome everyone who is applying to Pomona this year (or even next year). Hopefully we still have some of the current students on this board and some alumni, so we can ask questions. In the meantime, everybody who is here should give their info so we can all get acquainted, because the Pomona board's been pretty dead over the last year.

Give your:
Application Type (ED I, ED II, RD)
Possible Major
And any comments if you want, such as why you picked/are considering Pomona

Here's mine:
ED II
Classics
I chose Pomona because I wanted a selective LAC on the west coast, and I feel that I would just be lost in a college with a student body over 5000 and huge class sizes. I interviewed over the summer and loved the campus and the people I met. I also like the non-competitive feel they have. I'm not a 4.0 student, but I have a lot of EC's and passions and I hope I have a shot.

ED II
Politics (or some variation thereof)
I loved the idea of the Claremont colleges, and Pomona treats its students so well, it's crazy. I also like the work hard play hard way of life there, because it's basically what I do now. :D My weighted GPA is over 4.0, barely, but my unweighted it something like 3.78. My SATs are good though, and so are my ECs, so I'm hoping...

Further to trombonist's post, you might also note if you have some particular talent/interest/sport ("hook"). If you otherwise qualify by way of gpa/sat etc., if you also play a sport, are an outstanding musician etc. you might want to contact the particular coach, department head, etc. and may well have someone on your side through the admission process.

After all, there are thousands of qualified students with so few spots. So if you otherwise might qualify and have that something else to offer i.e. some "hook", don't be shy about it. Get on the "radar" of the appropriate person (coach etc.)at the school who can be your advocate.
