Class of 2011 ED Roster/Thread

i thought everyone just received decisions by mail, but also by phone for intl's

here is a little math i did for your amusement:

princeton's total enrollment (all degree-seeking undergrads): 4710

they say with the addition of whitman college, they will have room for 500 more students from all grade levels. this would be a total of 5210, representing a 10.615% increase.

this year, the number of freshman admits can be assumed to represent a quarter of that 5210, with a four-year plan to reach that number

thus, 1303 freshman will be admitted.

last year, 599 were admitted ED, and 1220 total. thus 49.1% were admitted ED.

this means that this year, if they go ahead with their 500 addition for all four years, 49.1% of 1303 will be admitted ED, which is 640. Since there are officially 2275 ED apps this year, that will be a 28.13% ED admit rate.

hope you found that interesting.

please keep in mind that this is just my speculation, and the only factual numbers I based these calculations on were the total current enrollment (4710) and the (500) that will be facilitated by Whitman. THE REST IS PURELY MY SPECULATION. Although it is pretty logical speculation.......

yes...very logical...thanks for the calculations

ok someone account for legacies/recruits and calculate the chances for us normal ppl :)

hahaah! do the dirrty work pk....lol

using my other numbers, and assuming that all legacies get in ED...

it is official that they make up 13% of the class, so that would be 170 legacies.

assuming they are all admitted ED, that would be 640-170= 470 non legacy EDs.

now here is where i will make up a number. lets assume that all legacies get in ED, and 80% of legacies get admitted (no factual basis, just my guess)

that would mean that 213 legacies applied, 170 got in ED (as before), and that would mean that 2275-213= 2062 non legacy ED apps...meaning that 470/2062 = 22.79% chances for non-legacy EDs, assuming that all legacies are admitted ED, and that 80% of legacies are admitted.

why did u make up random statistics when they r freely available? last year approx 200 out of 500 legacies were admitted. (40% success rate).

i think i read in princeton alumni weekly that legacy applicants get in at twice the normal rate, so that would be ~60% chances for ED

go to the common data set for last year........................ trust me it was a 40% rate

The number of legacy for the class of 2010 was only 107, not 170. Adjusting for this lower figure makes it more promising.

k ^^^^^^ thats come out wrong, but here are stats: 519 legacies applied and 200 accepted (39%)

Whoah...those numbers for int'ls are not so pretty...for once, it makes me glad that I'm from the Northeast.

wow!!! and that is the overall rate!! 40% compared to 10%! gosh. i wonder what the acceptance rate for legacies ED is.

Check out the following website for the early admits for 2010: www.ivysuccess.com/princeton_2010.html

Their site seems to have sound facts and near the end of the princeton description it says regarding ED 2010: "107 early admits, or 18 percent, are legacies.

If this is true, then there should be a greater chance for non-legacy, no?
