Class of 2011 Prospectives Roster

I was looking for one of these on this forum, and I couldn’t find it.
I know it’s a little late, but lot of the other boards have one, so why not start one here also?

Add your username to the list along with your prospective major.
Hopefully, we can see each other there =)

Why don't you girls put down your username and something else about yourself that isn't your prospective major...like a class that you want to try out that might be outside your normal comfort zone, or a club that you want to join. I get really frustrated with firstyears who come to campus already knowing their major and what classes they need take first semseter and for the next four years. Wellesley is all about exploring and trying brand new things out and stretching yourself and finding new (and totally unexpected) academic joys. Don't limit yourself by already having a major in mind...tell yourself that you're going to use firstyear to take a variety of classes and be completely open minded. You don't have to declare your major until fall of sophomore year at the earliest (if you plan on going abroad fall of jr. year), so wait until then to tell everyone what you're planning on majoring in (you can even changed it after this point).
I have friends who thought they were going to be English majors who are now majoring in biology and others who planned on going the pre-med route who are now thesising in religion. You just never know what's going to spark your curiousity...
Be open and have fun.

I agree prospective majors are almost too defining, but I was the world's most boring high school student. So many people (including myself) don't major in what they expect to when they come in or change their major even after they've declared. Deciding you don't like something before you get your degree in it and condemn yourself to an unhappy career is a GOOD thing.

However, I don't think that it's so terrible to look at Wellesley knowing what you want to do or at least what you like. If anything you will have something to look for and ask about at each school you look at. There are so many schools out there that you need something besides prestige to tell you where to begin. Otherwise you are just comparing meal plans, ethnicity ratios and student body statistics, advertised school traditions, and the number of years of guarenteed housing.

To be honest, my college search was rather superficial. I liked the schools I applied to, but if I was told that I had to transfer somewhere else next year, I would be looking for very very different things than I did when I was in high school. I would be considering what schools had good programs for my major (not many). I would look at research opportunities in that department, employment opportunities in that department, what equipment that department had, what coursework I could complete. I know what kind of housing I want, what kind of meal plans I want. In short, I would know exactly what I want this time around because I know what I like (and it's basically Wellesley).

I'm not going abroad, but since I hadn't fully ruled it out, I declared my major early, and I'm glad I did. It made me more stressed at first, but it gave me an identity at Wellesley and I'm pretty grateful for that. I also hate small talk so I wanted to throttle every person who asked me where I was going to college in mid March of my senior year. Hence, I was so happy to come home for the holidays with a straight answer to what was going to be the next question everyone was going to ask me.

ROFL XD
Two long posts which I don't have the time to read...I read about half of the first one.
Okay fine, let's just post our usernames.
Just trying to allow some more interaction on this forum, no one ever posts here.
You think too much =)

haha okay I read them now.
Yeah they do have points.
But I doubt anyone else will take that much time to write something out.
I was trying to lighten up the atmosphere of this forum.
Most of these posts are just Q&A, so I wanted some more interaction!!! =)

ohh miss zanna,
I don't want to do my homework over Thanksgiving break, so I just feel like typing essays about my college experience. That is all. You can all come to Wellesley next year and laugh at me when I apply to grad schools and get all angsty. Actually, applying for REUs is bad enough. My friends don't even want to talk to me when I'm supposed to hear back.

Semi-related question for all the ex-Wellesley/Wellesley students who are reading this thread so they can stalk the prospies: Do you think you could easily transplant your Wellesley experience to another institution? Are you doing things that you may not have been able to do at another institution? Did you know those activities existed when you applied to Wellesley or did you happen upon them randomly?

The individual activities I joined aren't unique to Wellesley, but the combination is something that probably wouldn't have happened at any of the other schools I considered applying to. It's quite unlikely that I would have found my major at any of those schools, and none of them have a carillon. Who knows if I would have joined a choir or learned French or become interested in letterpress and bookbinding.

Nearly all of these interests began at Wellesley with the encouragement of the people around me. At a different institution? It probably wouldn't have happened the same way.
