Hmmmm. Chance?

Two words: Dream School. Not counting hogwarts. May apply ED.

GPA: 3.85-3.9/4.0, my biggest worry is that I got a C in AP chem one semester. Cs freak me out. I brought it up the next semester, but still. Worry. I do have some circumstances/reasons that I'm debating telling them, but I want to get in without doing that if I can.
My school doesn't rank...
SAT ~ math: 690, CR: 710, writing: 720 which comes out to 2120/2400
ACT w/ writing (which I'll probably give them because I haven't taken subject tests): 32
No hooks that I know of.
I took 1 AP junior year, which is the norm for my school. I was pretty shocked (and terrified) when I found out most people have taken 3+ by now. I'm taking 3 next year, math, english, physics.
I want to major in gender/women's studies and Wellesley's premed track. Right now my first career choice is gynecology/OB-GYN.

ECs:
-Prose editor-->editor in chief of literary magazine
-Started school's relay for life team as sophomore, captain for 10, 11, and 12th grades
-NHS (12) I have more than enough hours, I just never did NHS.
-Medical science club (4 years)
-I'm doing this special health sciences program my school offers next year, you have to apply and stuff. We pick five health studies we're interested in and closely shadow doctors at University of Michigan hospital. We also get CPR registered and all that good stuff. SO EXCITED :P
-Last summer I did a course for high schoolers at JHU in preventative medicine. I don't know how special that is, but I got a full scholarship through this special organization that gives money to women studying at top schools.
-I am really into cake decorating. I took classes at joann fabrics freshman year. It's what I do to chill I guess. I might send pictures, to show admissions how I choose to spend my free time. It's also insanely fun.
-I love languages (I take Spanish and know a bit of Finnish. Will MOST DEFINITELY be studying abroad) but I don't have room in my schedule for another, so this summer I'm teaching myself French! It's going pretty well. Surprisingly relaxing.
-AND FINALLY, I volunteer at an abuse prevention shelter place with the teen program. It's like Planned Parenthood teen educators, but we give presentations on dating violence. I won't go into it, but that's probably gonna be the basis of my essay. I did the 30 hour training last spring. (I recommend the book Female Chauvinist Pigs by Ariel Levy to everyone, on that feminist note)

Thank you sosososo much for powering through that
Please tell me if you need more info! :)

Sounds pretty good overall. I don’t think one C is a big deal in and of itself–the only problem with that may be that it is your only AP class to date (if I am understanding correctly). I don’t think only having one AP is a problem if that’s the norm for your school, but having gotten a C in that AP one semester is a bit of a bummer. Did you take the AP test/if so what score did you get? A good score would help to counteract the tough semester. GPA though sounds very good overall. Test scores are also good–not going to get you in really, but are about average or a little better and are in your favor.

Extras sound pretty good to me–I would say above average. Essay topic sounds potentially very good. Probably the most compelling part of your application.

Overall I would say you have a good chance at Wellesley, especially ED. You seem like an all-around good candidate. Good luck!

Average SATs. Good ACT. If I were you, I would report the ACT instead of the SAT.

I would also worry a bit about your C being in your only AP class. Your strong point will be your ECs and that you could pull off some rather compelling unique essays. Wellesley does look at the overall package and could potentially look over that one low grade.

Your chances will be stronger applying ED so that could work in your favor as well. Good luck!

Thanks! Oh, and I got a 4 on the AP test. I know Wellesley only gives credit for 5s, but I’m pretty pleased with it.

Congrats. A 4 is a good score - be happy :)
