<p>Caltech and MIT were what caused me to get out of the match process. I would love to go to Chicago or Columbia, but I didn't want to be bounded to those colleges and not have a chance to go to my dream colleges. I also didn't have time to finish the Stanford app for Questbridge and I didn't want to rush it and make it look like crap. Oh well, I better get back to work on that lol.</p>

Highschool: International in Berlin, Germany tiny grad class of 36 but has a good reputation for its size
GPA: school does not publish but in and around 4.0
Class rank: also not published but in top 3 if not first
IB's: 4HL's Chemistry, Physics, Math, History 2SL's English and German ab initio and TOK (did EE in history)
SR year: 2nd year of my IB
SATI: Math 780, Verbal 760, Writing 650

<p>ECs: Math Team, Chem Tutoring, various sports (as available), when I was at a larger school also had Astronomy club, music, and scouting</p>
<p>Honors and Awards: Science and math awards at my old school, placed high in math competitions</p>
<p>Essays: Started at the beginning of app process so they were fresh and well proof-read my "piddling around essay" was commented on and my common app about living overseas and never being truly at home was quite good too in my opinion</p>
<p>Recs: asked all three current math and science teachers to write one then selected best; my chem teacher has a reputation for writing successful ones and I was glowing, my history teacher likes me a lot but I have no idea what he wrote</p>
<p>Hooks: extreme passion for math and science, lived overseas, well rounded, </p>
<p>As a few final comments on applying in general from a high schooler's perspective: play yourself up (even if it feels a bit like bragging); don't assume addmisions officers know everything or can find it (its safer to tell them just in case); and finally chances are something does set you apart, you might not know what it is so ask others ot find out, it should be one focus of your application.</p>

Essays: commented on my main commonapp essay where I talked about my world and how I was like a compound created from a reaction. I talked about my experience interacting with the community, my parents, my childhood, my friends, my research, etc.
For the piddling around essay I just listed ways that I interacted with science in everyday life</p>
<p>Reccs: math teacher from 10 and 11, my euro history teacher from 10, as well as one from the prof I work for at the lab</p>
