Class of 2012 - Master List of Scholarship Awards

Today D received merit money from Loyola-Chicago: $34,000 over four years.

As always, this thread would be more helpful to future readers if some further info was provided - stats (if you have permission from your kid), name of scholarship, requirement to keep it (if any).

Texas A&M Offered $36,000 and other scholarships up to $50,000 for my D.
But she has to become a NMF.
I am assuming that every NMSF may have gotten such awards.
Unfortunately, there are no schools in the West Coast offering these types of awards.

Ijmom,
USC offers very generous scholarships to NMFs...

Texas A&M - same for NASF for my D
Florida A&M (FAMU) - 90K+ Tuition/R&B/laptop over 4yrs
D is a NASF (National Achievement Semi-Finalist), NMC (National Merit Commended).

Stats:

SAT 1260(700V/560M)- Nov retest results pending
GPA: 3.6uw/4.6w
Significant ECs

She didn't apply to either school, so the awards surprised us. We're keeping our fingers crossed for similar success at her 4 top choices.

Son was notified today that he received the IU Distinction Merit Scholarship: $8000 per year from Indiana University. Requirement is at least 1300 CR+Math SAT, or ACT of 29 or higher; with a minimum 3.75 GPA.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! D notified yesterday:

Iowa State full tuition scholarship ($65K)
stats update: SAT 2040 (710V/600M/730W)

Must accept by 12/5 :( No idea what this means. We thought we'd have till May to consider scholarships and acceptances. IA state is a serious consideration, but not her top choice. We haven't visited Iowa State yet and can't afford to right away. Wish I knew if it would be ok to decline scholarship and hope for National Achievement Finalist status in Feb which comes with free ride at IA State. This process is grueling.

Is ISU a member of NACAC? If so, there are rules against this practice. I would determine if they are a member, and request an extension if they are. Heck. Request an extension if they aren't. ;) Good luck.

ISU is most certainly a member of NACAC - it says so right in the online NACAC member directory. You should refer them to Section II-B-3 of the Mandatory Practices that they agreed to in becoming a member. It is available at http://www.nacacnet.org/NR/rdonlyres/9A4F9961-8991-455D-89B4-AE3B9AF2EFE8/0/SPGP.pdf and states "Postsecondary members agree that they will permit first-year candidates for fall admission to choose, without penalty, among offers of admission and financial aid until May 1. (Candidates admitted under an Early Decision program are a recognized exception to this provision.)"

Unless Early Decision is involved here, in which case you already have a done deal, they should be obligated to back off of that December 5 deadline. Note that the school may have an out. Section I-B-6 of the Interpretations of Mandatory Practices in the same document states "Financial aid is defined as grants, loans, work-study and scholarships. This practice does not apply to scholarship and financial aid programs that fall under state mandates."

Thanks so much Bass/Curmudgeon. Didn't know about NACAC till Curmudgeon's post. Googled the acronym and found the info you posted BassDad (btw --about that ID --clever).

I'll now take another look at the letter/call the school when it reopens to get a better understanding of the state mandate requirement/deadline requirement.

Now it's off to the hot stove for me! sigh

From Knox College, I got a $16,000 annual scholarship -- $10,000 for academic merit; $3,000 for my art portfolio; and $3,000 for my writing portfolio. They also offer scholarships for theatre design, music, math . . . all sorts of things. Their comprehensive fee is around $35,000, so $16,000 is a sizeable chunk.

For any parents of aspiring writers with very solid portfolios: I found this one out too late, but you should check it out for class of 2013 and on--University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill has a full-tuition scholarship for creative writers, based on writing portfolio and interviews. It's called the Tom Wolfe scholarship. Definitely worth investigating!

Edit:

My stats: 3.77 GPA and 2150 SAT

yeah my best friend applied for a tom wolfe scholarship- lets hope she gets it! haha even though she wants to go to Brown and is a legacy at Princeton.

i was notified of my acceptance to Tulane with $17,000 per year today. my dad went there, and was very excited about the money, but it is still my safety school.

Hi- Twin A received 2k from Univ. Vermont and Twin B received 2k from Indiana along with their acceptance letters. Good luck to everyone out there.

Truman State University - small public LAC in Missouri - out of state tuition
Knox College - IL $18,000

Son's Stats

My son so far--
University of Missouri: Mizzou Heritage Scholarship (for nonresident children of alumni; gives him in-state tuition)
Ohio University (also OOS): Gateway Scholarship, Gateway Trustee Award, and Residence Hall-Dining Discount, totaling $9,250.

Ohio U has excellent merit aid based on GPA and SATs. (My S just missed the nonresident tuition waiver by 10 points.)

He wouldn't be able to use some of this money because it will be canceled out by his DC Tuition Assistance Grant, but I wanted to post the results so others could see the possibilities available for OOS students at state schools.

18k per year from Mills.
1280/240 4.0, yada yda yada

Son just received full in-state tuition from Ohio University, plus $4500 for non-Ohio-residents. Both are renewable for 4 years. Also a $750 residence & dining hall discount for the first year.

This award is for CR + Math of 1400 or higher.

S received a Dean’s Scholarship from the University of Scranton. He got $14,000 per year as long as he maintains a 3.25. This was his safety but the money will certainly make him think since his other schools are not as generous. Dean's Scholarship recipients are typically in the top 20% of their class and have a minimum SAT score of 1200/1600. His stats, as best as I remember:

SAT – 1310/1600
GPA – 3.987 W, 3.85 UW
Commended

S received President's Scholarship from University of Portland. $17,000 merit per year, and they said there might be more.
SAT - 1330
ACT - 28
GPA - 3.89 UW

I just received Presidential Scholarship from Simmons College today- $10,000/year!!
