Class of 2012, TOP school & academic profile?

i might add tufts.

as far as i know… uconn and spelman are safeties.

I have no idea what colleges to look into. I thought I had an idea, but I’ve come to the realization that I don’t actually no much about any of them. I’m most interested in majoring in Film Studies and/or Creative Writing. I’m not exactly sure what I want to do either. I was thinking Journalism, since writing seems to be one of my strongest points but Journalism just isn’t what I thought it would be. Can anyone recommend to me any good Private Schools with an emphasis on Film Studies and/or Creative Writing based on my profile.

Thanks!

@Black: I feel the same way.
It seems like everyone on CC is applying to every single top 20 school and I’m only applying to 7 total :p

@AppleBeam: Are you interested in Northwestern, USC or Chapman?
(those are the only schools I can think of off the top of my head)

applebeam- not bad have you looked into howard??

marine-- i’m applying to 13 schools?
can you say over $1000 in app stuff incl. sending scores???

AppleBeam
I will advise that you go to the collegeboard website and use their college search tool. It could be a big help in showing you what you want.

I want to be a journalist so it’s cool to know that somebody on this site at least wanted to be one.

what do you plan to use a creative writing degree for?
I wanted to do that as well, but then I was like what can I do with that.

also applebeam-- black wants to do journalism, check out umass and neu

hehe let me try this

bold
italics
underline

Oh, AppleBeam. How about Wash U or Cornell?

For public schools, try U Mass, UVA or Syracuse.

lol
AppleBeam,
I just noticed that you will be fighting with me for that Scholastic novel award.
Good luck on that. There are tons of people doing that this year.

Edit:

Umass does not offer journalism only Communications. You can do journalism only as part of the communications major. It’s a pretty stupid deal, but I plan to try it anyway.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys.

@CPU I’m actually considering Howard.

@BlackRose101 I’ll make sure I check out College Search. I’m leaning towards being a Film Screen Writer/Editor. I was thinking that a degree in Creative Writing might help. Good Luck in the Scholastic Competition. I’m not exactly sure if I’ll even make it on time to enter. I have A LOT of editing to do.

@Marine Thanks, Ill look into those schools, as well.

does you guys’ school have junior awards???
every year we have a scholastic awards ceremony. they call you down to attend only if you get an award (this is for anyone in any grade)

the other grades get like student of the year, and it’s for every class even like remedial or “intensive” classes (thats good because those kids work hard too)

but only juniors get book awards (harvard, yale, etc)

and there’s an RPI award for math & science ( i think you have to have the highest grades in each) and it’s a $15,000 per year scholarship!!!

i need that.

edit: im looking at howard too

^My school has none of those Awards.

We don’t have any awards :(

I got an award last year for a fashion art project I did. I have no clue what it was, I did not win like a medal but I go a paper, certificate thing. When I got home I gave it to my mom and now I have no clue where it is. I could honsetly care less about it. The writing awards are the ones I care about.

I was the only kid in my school who got one.

awwww mannn.

we have monthly student of the month awards… and student of the year awards are for the kids with the highest grade (and i think the teacher has to like you)

lolz
I got one in Latin once.
It was the biggest joke ever. She picked me because I’m a big part of Latin Club and I honestly must have like the 5th highest score in her class but other people had higher scores. So yah, it’s because the teacher likes you that you get any awards at my school.

My school also has Student of The Week, where students who do good deeds are rewarded by being on the School News Show.

I think it’s Social Suicide, if you ask me.

Hey. Does anyone know any popular Writing Competitions, besides Scholastic and youngARTs that I could do. My passion is writing and I feel that my ECs don’t reflect that as much.

^^
School news show?!?!?
Do students run that?
How is it done?

I wish that my school would allow kids to do the paper and tv stuff. I did the paper once and was in charge of it for three years then they decided that student are not allowed to do it any longer. Darn them.

^I have a list of them on this thread a few pages back.

Oh, we have Student of the Week, too.
Now that I think about it… we have this huge awards ceremony in May on our school news show :stuck_out_tongue: I got a German award but my mom has it. That’s about it.

black-- i should have gotten the latin one frosh year because i had the highest grade, but i didnt get to turn all of my stuff in on time… and the teacher KNEW i should have gotten it. i’ve always had a 98 average… and the next highest is like an 85
