No, I don’t consider anything a given. Besides that’s not the only advice I gave you…

I think I could’ve been “more successful” from my own personal subjective point of view. Stanford and MIT were my first choices. Duke was my 3rd.

For those wondering earlier in the thread about CMU, it was the 2nd place I visited this spring. It’s a nice mix of city and campus, kind of like Georgia Institute of Technology (that was the 3rd place I visited). You’ve got a well defined campus, but you are a little ways from downtown Pittsburgh, albeit still in an urban area of Pittsburgh. Nice city by the way, a lot better than I expected. The campus is nice but I personally think I am a better fit for Georgia Tech.

Also - Trufflie, I don’t like those safeties. Those aren’t safe for anybody. The only things guaranteed in life are the kindness of strangers, the betrayal of those trusted, and uncertainty.

(And if anybody knows who I got that quote from without cheating and can cite it [this gets rid of the cheating aspect I guess], I will give you my full respect).

I’m not sure whether my parents would want/allow me to apply to the non-MIT/Caltech privates, since

a) we’re in California
b) I have a very good chance of getting into one of Cal or UCLA (given our school’s record and my stats)
c) they don’t think we really qualify for much financial aid, so they’ll probably be paying a lot unless I get a bunch of merit scholarships
d) they don’t think much of colleges that they’ve never really heard of

Indiana
Kansas
Iowa
Minnesota-TC
Ohio State (bit of a reach)
UIUC (bit of a reach)
Wisconsin-Madison (bit of a reach)
Missouri-Columbia (safety)

082349, what do you mean your school only allows for 8? Like your school mandates how many colleges you can apply to? Sorry if I’m totally missing something here and that’s not what you meant but I didn’t know schools did (or could do) that…

Actually the colleges in my own country are safeties and I don’t want to list them down there because it’s not part of the 8 that I can apply to.

Mine is frequently changing. As well as what it is I want to do in college.

Is it possible to major in, say, psychology/social welfare/service with a pre-med focus? My “plan” as of right now is become a social worker after my undergrad and through med-school and then hopefully become a psyhiatrist of some sort.
