Class of 2012

:::looks around:::

Not much action here... off in few hours to fly from Los Angeles to NYC for my son's freshman year in MT at Wagner. :) Top choice school for him. He's excited (but still not completely packed!!) LOL!

If anyone happens to read this prior to orientation late this week, feel free to track me down and say hello. :)

Cheers!

Hi Rora-not class of 2012, but possibly 2013. We're heading to NYC next month to visit Wagner, but DS is not in MT...most of the posts here are for MT students which has me thinking a little!

Enjoy/survive/embrace the orientation.

I just read in Barron's that "no alcohol is permitted" under the housing section, I a wondering if that is enforced or if it is something that is a huge joke at Wagner. We were contemplating a visit to Wagner, but now I am wondering, after all, the college years are supposed to be fun too!

cpeltz -

The percentage of each incoming class that are theatre is fairly small (don't recall the number now) but they're a rather outspoken part. When we were there for auditions in February, we saw the lacrosse team returning from a match. There were a lot of them and they were both very close-knit and very friendly to us parents being given a tour. It impressed me because I wanted to see other kids pursuing other passions. I think the balance is important on a campus.

Any of the performance majors are very competitive - most schools take about 10% of applicants - so lots of parents are looking for guidance, support, advice, etc.

Wagner was a school we looked at on someone else's suggestion, and we visited to humor me - but it became my son's first choice school about halfway through the tour.

Best of luck to you and your DS as you embark on this adventure!!!

Slumom - I don't know what the reality is, but since my son will be just 17 for the first few weeks of school, I'm okay with him being in housing that is "no alcohol permitted" - so is he.

We'll be visiting the end of September, and I've been very impressed with the people I've spoken with at Wagner. They've been very welcoming and encouraging. My son wants to go back east (we're from California) although he's nevr even BEEN back east, so it should be an experience! Personally, the thought of visiting NYC a few times a year sounds great...but the flight prices not so much.

Anyone going to Wagner for business- acctg? Would like to hear pros/cons, etc.? Like NYC location for internships, job connections in NYC area, activities in Manhattan. Anything would be helpful.

Woooot!! Class of 2012!!
