Reaches: 5
Safeties/Matches: 4
Safeties: 2

For a total of 11! I keep getting the impression this is too few, or too much :(

Still a Junior here, and my list is probably going to be highly optimistic and unrealistic, but meh:
Reaches: a ton (MIT, Caltech, Stanford, Princeton, Harvard, Columbia, Cornell maybe, Chicago)
Matches: a few (Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan)
Safeties: All the other UCs

It is heavily skewed towards the top; however, if I do well this year in the Science Olympiad, get a 5.0 GPA (6 AP classes), maybe get an officer position in NHS, and possibly get an internship at a lab, I’m positively sure I have a fair shot at a bunch of them.

Reach: 3
High match/low reach: 4
Match: 2
Safety: 2

I’m only applying to 5 or 6 (not sure if I’m doing the last one) because I’m applying ED to my favorite college. I have one safety both financially and admissions-wise, one or two safeties admissions-wise (not sure about FinAid). One match (which I like enough to enjoy going there, it’s my #2) and two reaches.

I don’t get the idea of doing so many safeties. If they’re true safeties, why do you need so many? Find one you’d thrive in, enjoy, have enough money for, and be fine with that one safety. I understand having so many if you’re indecisive, not sure about FinAid, etc. but my suggestion, is to focus on a few you really love, both matches and reaches, and one you’d be fine at as a safety. Although, I’m prone to not listening to people, probably to a point that’s not the smartest idea.

Oh, and I’d like to add, having a huge variety on your list often is people ignoring weather. If all your safeties are UC’s, just as an example (not to pick on you basicspace) and you like California weather, I’d stick to warmer top-rated schools like Stanford, Rice, etc. because while they may not be ivy league, they’re almost as good, and if you don’t like cold weather you’d be miserable for 3 months in the Northeast. For me, weather doesn’t matter that much. I am okay with the South (where I live currently) but I’d prefer the cold. Just a thought to all you applying to so many colleges, make sure you’d fit in at these schools other than just academically.

Reach: 1
Match: 5
Safety: 2

Reach: 4 (WashU, Rice, Yale, Northwestern)
Match: 5 (Baylor, Rhodes, Whitman, Wake Forest, SMU)
Safety: 3 (Southwestern, Trinity University, and MAYBE Lawrence)

I really think I need to add a public school for financial reasons, but since I’m using Common App, it’s hard. I’ll have to go to a different website and answer 3 different essay quesetions and get 3 more rec letters. Hopefully, I can find the time :D

Update!
Reach:6
Match: 2
Safety: 2

I’m laike so balanced…

I have two reaches
One match
And two safeties.
Although, more likely than not im going to end up at a community college for money reasons…

It’s funny to look back at my list knowing that I only actually plan on applying to two of the five schools I had in my mind, and still being unsure about applying to one of those two schools.

Anyway, now it’s:
1 Match/Lowwwww Reach
1 Safety

I’ve already applied to my match, and I was going to apply early to my safety as well, but I’m now thinking that I may just wait and apply regular decision.

ProFormat

[ul]
[li]Reach:5[/li][li]Match:3[/li][li]Safety:0[/li][/ul]

Reach: 4
Match: 4
Safety: 2

I’m playing it kind of safe with my list, applying more to schools that fit me than schools that are just big names. My reach list is smaller than most, because I’m trying to be pragmatic, but I have schools on there that I really like. I honestly am unsure about using my ED, because Idk if I’d like the reach school if I was to get accepted. Columbia/Cornell seem good in name, but idk if they’d be my type.

Anyone else having this dilemma?

What match schools are you guys applying to?

I feel like my list only has reaches and one safety…
Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC

Reach - 2/3
Match - 3/4
Safety - 3
Even distributions entirely by accident, really. Carnegie Mellon is a high match/low reach (applying for ECE, so yeah), so I put it in both.

EDIT: EA for me is 2 safeties, 1 match, and 1 reach, so I’m interested so see how it goes. =P

Oh, the schools for each
Reach: Brandeis
Matches: Pace, CUNYs, St. John’s, Mercy, and UMass Dartmouth
Safeties: PSU, and Northwestern College (NOT the one in Chicago. It’s a tiny Christian college in IA. I just got accepted on the 11th.)

Reach: 2
Match: 5
Safety: 3

Reach: 1; Northwestern
Match/Reach (sort of depend on my yet to be reveal SAT/ACT scores): 1; Purdue
Match: 2; Ball State, IndianaTech
Likely: 2; UAT, Valpo
Safely: 2; Indiana State University,

So that about 8 colleges I’m applying to. I don’t Consider Safely and likely the same because safeties are more I’ll go there if all go wrong… not I know I’ll get in :/

Reach: 1
Match: 2
Safety: 2

I feel like this list should be longer, but oh well. In all honesty, I’m very picky about colleges.

I agree completely marshmallow. I looked at academics, athletics, size, weather, campus aesthetics, what the student body is like, the city it’s in, and that limited me to 5 or 6. If you have a couple safeties you like, a couple matches you like, and a couple reaches you like that’s fine. But it’s just ridiculous to apply to so many, to me. How many would you ACTUALLY want to go to, would be my question for some of these people…

Maybe - 2
Very Likely - 4

My dream school and the one I want to go to and will go to as long as I can afford it is one of the very likely ones. For my classmates, it’s one of their safety schools. But it’s got a great teacher education program which is what I want. Plus, the campus feels like home to me.

Reach: 3
Match: 4
Safety: 2-3 (Not sure whether or not I’m applying to UCSC. Only in my nightmares will I be rejected from Davis and San Diego. But what if nightmares happen?)

I feel like I inflate my definition of a match. Or deflate my definition of a reach. I don’t know any more.
