Class of 2013

Well,if we show that we are a perfect match for those colleges...That wouldn't just be a dream..I don't have anything to say....It is really painful to be an international student and DREAM HIGH!! Financial aid would be my first priority........And now I've started becoming listless..

Chlormel - do you mean having finished high school and then returning to study, ie didn't attend college straight away, or taking the two years out during high school, for whatever reason?

If it's the first one, I'm doing that. I finished high school (in England) in 2005 and am now applying as an International student for freshman admission starting next year. From what research I've done, pretty much all colleges are fine with it, and as long as you're under 25 your financial aid is calculated the same way as everybody elses, that is by your parents' income.

Ya, so anyone having anymore comments on what to add or subtract from my list of colleges?

Oberlin, Macalester, Grinnell?

Macalaster - No full rides.
Oberlin, Grinnell - Maybe, maybe not.

Anyone know about Tufts or Northwestern?

Don't think they provide that much aid either. Check the FA lists.

Portugueseninja, does that mean you finished A-levels in 2005? I finished my A-levels in 2007 and I want to apply as a freshman starting in 2009.

So, judging by your answer, I guess that's okay.

BUT, I'm in an interesting situation cos some of the colleges require me to apply as a transfer (since I'm in Law school), some as a freshman (because my courses obviously won't transfer).

Hi everyome,
I am pretty new to CC. you guys seem to know a good deal about the application process. I wanted to know if applying EDII makes any difference in the way the college views one's level of interest. Is EDII simply a method of showing to the college one's level of interest (since the deadline for EDII and regular is the same)?

Yes, I believe it is mainly a mechanism for that.

Lafayette is awesome with aid, is it not? It says if accepted, they will give full rides including everything! Another safety ... yesss!!

Jus to let you know.. there is no such thing as a safety if you're international... esp with a alot of financial need.

adrivit, what exactly are you considering a safety? Layafette is still one of the top LACs and is incredibly selective. According to their website there are only 30-50 international first year students admitted, and they get over 700 international applicants who need financial aid. I would say they are very much not a safety :-/

Chlormel, yeo I finished A Levels in 2005. Your transfer/freshman situation is a bit complicated isn't it.. I think it's more difficult to get in places as an international transfer, I'm sure I remember reading on some college websites that they don't do that at all. But you can't apply as a freshman if you've already enrolled at college..? eek!

Ya right ... not a safety then! Everything is uncertain for an international asking for aid .... sigh!

hey, i am aiming for cornell/brown/upenn. I am doing business admin under a government scholarship and my sponsor is crazy about us going into one of the ivy leagues. Nice to meet u all!!!

Yeah, Stanford's just trash. Haha..

Hi cherry, which country are you from?

yup! and Stanford even has specifications for envelope sizes ... that's like pushing it TOO far!!

Hey, I didn't follow their instructions and didn't do too badly =p

Portugueseninja, I already contacted the colleges and some said I'd just have to apply as a freshman cos my Law school courses will not transfer, some said I just apply as a transfer but will most likely have first year standing.

The only difference is that they need my Law school transcripts.

Hey guys! How's it going?

Not too well tetris.

Essays, you see.
