what’s SAT II in lit like?

Ya wanting more on resume…

And How do I show my family income…

tks ayurveda!!!

@Duke
SAT II literature isn’t all that difficult if you’ve studied any literature at all, or even just language. You are not tested on your knowledge of literary pieces, so you don’t have to study specific texts in preparation. It’s all about analyzing and interpreting texts, so a grasp of literary devices is required. If you are good at CR, you should be able to do well on the satII lit after a bit of preparation.

@benutzer

oh…i thought you had to study certain literary pieces and answer questions relating that…anyway thankx

Why don’t you try out practice questions from collegeboard to see what the test is actually like? I did and i must admit that the test was somewhat like CR but with a bit more difficult passages and literary pieces.

@benutzer, duke99:
you’re wrong. have you actually taken the test? i did. and even with a year of english literature, some of it was quite difficult. you have to have a thorough knowledge of all the basic literary terms. for example, the most basic ones: alliteration, metaphors, assonance, similes, pathetic fallacy, allegory, allusion, theme, tone, personification etc etc. unless you know what these are, you’ll have a tough time. believe me. i had a tough time with one specific poem. i think it was an emily bronte piece or at least one of the bronte sisters. don’t take SAT II literature unless you’re really really into western (esp american) literature. CR is a piece of cake compared to SAT II literature. my score 770 on CR, 720 on SAT II.

@ (th)ink
I did actually take the test. I had a lower score on the CR than you but got 720 as well on lit. I decided to take the lit test two days before the actual test date, and only spent a few hours looking over sample tests at USEF the day before to see if it was doable. I reckoned I could get 700+ and that’s what I got. To be fair, I took literature in high school so I was already familiar with literary terms and devices. I found literature easier because it doesn’t test your vocabulary like CR does, and I could never memorize lists of vocabulary.

but you dont have to memorize lists of vocabulary for the critical reading. i didnt memorize a single word. all you have to do is read. but in literature, even if you read a lot, its not going to help you if you can’t identify what the devices are.

Ah of course all you have to do is “read”! I don’t see how your point is any different from mine. Whether you get there through reading or by memorizing lists, it is well-known that your vocabulary knowledge has a not-insignificant correlation with your CR score. So if can do well on the CR, AND are prepared to put in some effort into learning literary analysis, I don’t see why SAT II lit should be a problem (unless you are aiming for a perfect score)! I believe I have maintained throughout that knowledge of literary terms and their usage is necessary, which is why a background in literature helps.

@pushpa, sorry for a reply. but you cannot get a better answer to your query than in the prev page. But if u still wanna know more, PM me.

@think, you hit a 770 on CR, thats utterly impressive. what was your aggregate score?

@benutzer what was your aggregate score in SATs?

@linux, welcome friend.ull learn a lot in this site.

@ayurveda. I am fascinated by your name coz i have a deep penchant for ayurvedic science even though it is considered bygone and old.

RESUME:

If your applying to big universities and top ranked colleges like Yale, Columbia, Williams an all’ try to confine your resume to 1 page because I can bet that they won’t care to flip one more page if they consider to look at it. If they do take it, try to fit your best achievements in the 1st page if ur going >1 page. Besides, it always makes sense owing to the sheer volume of applicants in these institutions and that Common app already has a space to describe it. Also, your guidance counsellor may rap a lot on extracurriculars too in the reccos. But some universities may blatantly refrain us from sending even the resume. I am talking about Stanford.

If you are applying to good colleges as colby, trinity, macalester etc. ask the admission officers for length. But they will mention that you may go to a page or two. I guess they even accept some certificates and additional employment letters and reccos to substantiate that.

If you are applying to safeties, then make a 5 page resume like mine. Don’t panic! I have an abridged one-page version too. So the strategy to making a 1 page resume is to include only significant achievements in the first page:

TOPICS must include:

ACADEMICS : 2-3 about the name of school and location… I guess its extraneous since its all on common app but include it any way.

HONORARY/ AWARDS recieved: i.e. if you have any.

WORK EXPERIENCE: rap about your internships, jobs or experience as a teacher or sth else.

COMMUNITY SERVICE: I had a lot of matter on this so I needed to create a new heading.

SPORTS: Again, I had a handful of these activities.

Also, google for RESUME WORD TEMPLATES, u can work upon it too, although I worked on mine from scratch.

AND most important of all keep the font size 11-12 or at the worse 10. try to make it look pleasing to eyes and not very loud.

I spent about a month on my resume. hehe.

ok i might be infrequent with my posts coz I have exams in Oct Nov to take care of as well.

guys what do u think the rate of visa rejections…i heard of many rejections…what do u think the reasons behind this…huh…

MLPN. are you from malpi?

@benutzer,
alright, i concede

@gurung,
i don’t think ayurveda is referring to the ayurvedic system of medicine, he probably means ayurveda, the band from ithaca, new york, which has diwas gurung. he’s probably from bnks.

@think
diwas gurung is from bnks.
and maybe ayurveda is too.

@ayurveda
are u, ayurveda???

yes i know. hence, the implication that ‘ayurveda’ is from bnks too. see the connection?

yeah i see it.

@gurung
