Why the heck does Collegeboard not allow calculators in the Physics Subject test? This “no calculators allowed” rule is so annoying.

Hello, tox!c, it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help solve another member’s problem, or just join a conversation?

anything people???

is there a list for who is goin where this fall from nepal?

lol…yeah it really annoyed me too when i gave the test. Even more annoying is in the Chemistry Test

YES, chem was really irritating without the calculator. But I got some decent numbers in the test anyway, so I guess it all worked out finally :).

how much did you get tetris?

ah…so the talk has shifted to subject tests now. who’s giving them in october? count me in…

and cc, physics doesn’t exactly need calculators…they’re easy questions, just using formulas gives right answers in some and the calculations are pretty easy…it’s such a great help that they’re actually easier than our H.S. tests…don’t you think?

I’m taking the subject tests on October. It actually gets annoying when you have to solve 4/sq.rt.2 or sq.rt.500 to get the answer. It would had been so much better if we had Physics C subject test instead of Physics subject test.
@stagThe questions are easy but the curve is crazy in Physics,so got to watch out for silly mistakes. And Math IIC seems like the easiest of all so far.

@Duke: So, you have already taken the Subject tests?? How did it go?

@Duke99: I got 800…

hey hussey is back again!!!

@tetris
you said decent. that’s a perfect score!!!

@cc
yeah i took them in January. It was fine for my standards and am really satisfied with the scores. The only thing i regret was taking Math I instead of Math II. In Math I, you’re really prone to silly mistakes and you have to get every question right to get a perfect score.That’s where i faltered.

My scores phy 800, chem 770, math I 770

What would you suggest I had to choose from Chemistry and Maths I ?

No, by decent numbers, I meant the numbers given in the sums were decent! ie. no over the top calculations

@Linux

Are you taking Maths II???
If yes, it would be a waste to choose Maths I over chemistry. The main aim of subject tests is to show the college you are good at these subjects. By giving Maths II you’re already proven that you are good at math because the difficulty level of Maths II is higher than Maths I.
If no, it’s your choice actually. You also have to consider what major you’re studying in college.
What other subjects are you taking? If you’re in Nepal there’s not actually much choice anyway. Phy, Chem, Maths,Lit.That’s all there is. (i’m not even sure about Lit ).

@ tetris

LOL … I got it…But that was really ambiguous.

hey heard that even 16 incorrect ans in Physics and chem in SATII can get us 800. is it really true??? and are they as hard as the MCQs of paper 1.

@Duke 99
I am preparing Physics and Maths II but having hard time to decide in Chem and Maths I?
And yes i am in Nepal.

I too at one point was considering taking Maths I instead of Chem. but then later decided against it.

@adhikari: That’s not true!!! As far as i know Math IIC has the most generous curve which allows you to get even 5 wrongs for an 800.

@ccprofile: But a teacher of mine said so, just wanted to confirm. even heard that the questions are not as hard as Paper 1.

@tetrisfan how did you manage to get 800??? when did you start preparing- 3-4 months ago or 2years ago
