***Class of 2014 NMSF Qualifying scores***

A 230 is a mortal lock for NMSF. (anywhere). Don’t forget the paperwork to go from NMSF-NMF.

Agreed ridethewave. We’ve been doing the same as SAT score is also in merit range for some schools. and although there are MANY generous NM awards out there and I’m grateful kid has a chance at these schollies, some non NM schools have stronger programs in kid’s fields of interests and mine is eager to go a big city too so we’ve added that to our equation. and don’t worry soso. IF we need to do the paperwork, i won’t forget it… Kid might but mama will not…

Yep, I wouldn’t doubt NJ goes to 225 or 226…Hoping it isn’t more than 226 for selfish reasons of course…

It seems the cut off for Michigan will reach another record high this year. My estimate would be ~212-213. The previous record was 210 and it was 207 last year.

What are my chances of making NMSF in Tennessee? I scored a 213 and for the past decade the TN cutoff has been within 2 points (greater or lower) of the national 99% (which was 211 for the class of 2014). Out of 10+ years only once has the TN cutoff been 3 points greater than the national 99% cutoff and that was about 8 years ago. The TN cutoff has recently either been within 1 point of the natl 99% or exactly the same as the natl 99%. Do you think these are great odds?

Class of 2011 cutoff (212) natl 99% (212)
Class of 2012 cutoff (214) natl 99% (214)
Class of 2013 cutoff (210) natl 99% (211)

mathmomvt, vryproudmom, and AtypicalAsian, Thanks. Your responses have motivated us to work on reading. We are from Oklahoma, so our cutoff has be below 210. But, we need to ensure that he scores high enough on the reading. Thanks again.

Will I get a letter notifying me of semifinalist status, in the event I do make it?

No, semifinalists do not get notified directly, only through their schools.

Do you think a score of 225 will make the cut in Kansas?

zoragee, yes

Semifinalists are notified in September right? Or is it October?

Check out the sticky at the top of the thread.

How can I find the sticky? I use the CC android app.

Sorry I know this is a dumb question.

I have a 220 in Massachusetts… any hope?

atypitical. pretty sure it’s September and by ur school.

The sticky is the FAQ thread at the top of this forum:

fscott, not sure on Mass. pretty sure that’s one of the states with the really high cutoffs. what have cutoffs been for last several years and do u have a sense whether top Mass scores were higher this year?

I’m doing the math and it’s looking like Colorado may have its highest cutoff ever.

2012 Stats: CUTOFF = ???

2011 Stats: CUTOFF = 212

2010 Stats: CUTOFF = 215 (Highest ever)
http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/research/CO_2010_05_02_01.pdf

It looks like the number of people in the 75-80 ranges for this year are very similar to 2010 (only an increase of 9 people when the three areas are combined), when the cutoff was 215. However, the number of people in the 70-74 ranges has increased significantly from 2010 to 2012. How much weight does the 70-74 range hold in comparison to the 75-80 range??? If someone could do a quick estimate of what the cutoff will be this year I would be SO SO grateful. Colorado generally gets around 230 semifinalists if that helps at all. I’m sitting on a 217 and I’m losing so much sleep over this!!! Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Castleknight… Why are you losing sleep over this?
A +6 rise is VERY unlikely. And the 75-80 category generally dominates unless the 70-74 categories are outstandingly high. My estimate of the CO cutoff is 214-216 (215 would be a solid guess). A 217 cutoff could happen (hence you would make it) but a 218 would be very unlikely (like less than 10%). You have great chances!

Castlenight - you are probably fine with a 217. The big decline in math scores vs. 2010 will keep scores from rising too much, but it is a numbers game. The top 230 or so will make it, even if that means scores rise significantly from last year. I would say this year will be at least as high as 2 years ago (215), more likely a 216. Graduation rates come into play as well - CO could get up to 250 slots or drop down to 210 slots. It would have to go up to 218 for you to miss out, and it doesn’t seem like that will happen. The commended score this year is up to 203 - CO is typically 12-13 points over the commended score.
