can’t wait!

Can anyone post a link to the source for that commended score? I can’t find it anywhere.

Does anyone know the commended cutoff? I scored a 201…

Jimster2014,

203 is the cut off…

disney,
is there any cited source that says so?

"is there any cited source that says so? "

Yes, the “high-scorers” letters sent to high schools named all students scoring 203 or better.

Thanks, Ridethewave…

This year’s commended score (national) cutoff rose from last year’s 200 to 203. Intuitively, one would think that the state cutoffs this year will also be higher. My son is sitting on the fence here in CA with a 219.

Is intuitive reasoning correct here? Put another way, should we expect California’s cutoff this year to be higher than last year given the increase in the national commended cutoff?

Thanks in advance.

@AsleepAtTheWheel - I, and many others, share your intuition that scores will go higher this year. Many others here on CC have done state report comparisons, and by all the accounts that I have read, cutoff scores for this year will be close to the Class of 2012. Looking back, I think CA was 220 last year, and 221 for the Class of 2012. Looks like your son might miss the cutoff, despite his great score. Congratulations on his performance, and good luck with college planning.

no one knows any state cutoff. Best to keep a positive spirit going forward.

very nervous at 215

@2014hsgrad – as @lagunal points out, no one knows for sure what the cutoffs will be. That said, I have looked at the state numbers for Illinois, trying to guess this year’s cutoff based on past numbers and cutoffs. Again, the standard disclaimer applies – “Past performance does not guarantee future results.”

My guess for Illinois is 217. I hope for your sake and my daughter’s that it is lower than that. Keeping my fingers crossed… Good luck!

Just to give a slight hope for a lower Illinois cutoff… Chicago Public Schools had a record high graduation rate this year. Perhaps that will help Illinois capture a bit higher percentage of the total semifinalists, thereby making the cutoff less of a jump. Just a thought. We will know soon!

Oh and I meant lower than ILfather’s predicted 217 not lower than last year’s 213 …I think that is HIGHLY unlikely.

I have a 223 in Cali. Any news on if that’s NMSF?

I think you’re safe to say you will be a National Merit Semi Finalist, since the only state cutoff score higher than 223 that I know about is Massachusetts for the class of 2007 (224). Congratulations on your great score, and good luck with the steps to become a finalist.

Do you think i’m in the clear with a 217 in Oregon?

Guys, we’re finally days away from notification! We have gone from months, to weeks, to finally THE FINAL WEEK in this notification process! Is anybody else excited???

Nervous and excited…
