IntoTheWoods: You can call NM to confirm that they have been received.

Son’s SAT scores were sent before he was named as a semifinalist (used one of his free score reports when taking the SAT, figuring he might be a semifinalist). But if there’s no way to see online (via the NM site, not the SAT site) that his scores are acknowledged as received, we’ll be making the phone call to double check.

@lagunal and @atomom, thanks. I think we’ll just call NMSC and make sure they got the SAT score. We did confirm on College Board’s site that it was sent.

Disappointed to find out that, starting in 2014, Northeastern’s National Merit scholarship has been reduced from full tuition to $30,000/yr.

^^ I just looked up Northeastern’s changes, and they also moved their notification date back to April 13 (that is, the date by which you need to name them your first choice school to be eligible for the NMF scholarship). Considering that our school’s April break is April 14-18 and that would be when we’d be doing final visits to make a final decision, my DS is unlikely to have a first choice by April 13. Ugh, that complicates matters significantly :(

Thanks for the reply texaspg

Does the student get an email when the school submits their part?

I just called to see if they have my DS’s SAT scores (they do) and also asked if there was a way my son would be able to tell if the school had submitted their part. The representative said he thought my son would “probably” get an email when that was the case, however since I haven’t noticed anyone here reporting that, my guess is that he was incorrect about that, and maybe the school receives such an email but the student does not.

He was able to check and said that the school had started their part and was almost done, and invited us to call back next week for confirmation if necessary.

@mathmomvt Are you saying he asked NM and they told him on the phone that the school had started?

Yes, the NM person on the phone could apparently see that the school had started on their part(s) of the application, but not finished. (Maybe they had already uploaded a transcript but not a recommendation or something. He did not specify.)

(from a homeschooler’s prospective…when my mom inputted classes) when the school does their part, they have to input each class —there is no scan and upload a transcript. Each class that a student has taken has to be typed in, and there are several other factors like if it is AP, honors, or highest level of course. It is pretty detailed for a school. Once they enter one student’s information, it is not that hard because there may be similar classes, but the school does have a lot of work.

Thanks Tiberius – I did not realize. That seems like a lot of opportunities for error :-o and a lot of extra work for the school.

I think if the school regularly has NMSF, then most of their classes are already entered in from previous years. If a school suddenly has 10 NMSF, they have a lot of work to do to input classes for 4 years (includes what student is taking in senior year) and to input all their grades by semester or/and final year grade.

Today when we log in to the Online Scholarship Application website, we see the following message, indicating the school has sent all the required documents to NMSC: 'Your completed application was transmitted to NMSC on 10/07/13." Yay!

Nice! Is that only on the student login, or does the parent login show that as well?

@mathmom, the parent page says the following:

"Application Submitted.

Your student has submitted his or her application to the high school and you no longer have the option to view the PDF. Please refer any questions to your school or contact NMSC by phone (847) 866-5162 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central Time."

IntoTheWoods – that’s what my parent page shows as well. I just had my son login and his page says that the school has NOT submitted their part yet, so he’ll be checking with his counselor tomorrow! So the student should definitely sign in today to see if the school has submitted or not.

@mathmom, that is strange - that your page has changed but your son’s hasn’t. It will be a good idea to check with his GC tomorrow. And yes, students should check their pages. I think you are okay, but no harm in checking!

The parent page doesn’t say anything about whether the school has done their part. It just says the kid submitted to the school, which I already knew ;-)

That’s exactly what I thought, mathmom! Hopefully you’ll get your confirmation today!

I have my fingers crossed that they will get it done today and not leave it for the very last minute, because the stress will kill me…
