mathmomvt, I am here with you.

GL 4beardolls, I hope your school gets their part done today too so we can relax tonight!

They took us down to the last minute, but my DS’s application is finally showing up this morning (but not last night!) as complete and submitted by the school! phew!

Mine still says the student has submitted the application to the school. Nothing about complete and submitted by the school. Grrrr! Nothing like waiting til the last minute!

Yikes 18yr, hope you get the confirmation soon that the school’s part is done! Have you spoken to someone to make sure they’re aware and working on it today?

I called the school and NMSC. The school waited until TODAY to turn things in, but NMSC confirms they have received everything. Whew.

^^ phew! Sorry it went down to the wire for you but I’m glad it’s in and confirmed!

I actually stopped by the counselor’s office to bring them my son’s Presidential Scholars nomination paperwork. So I tactfully asked about the NMS application that is due TODAY. The counselor said, I am done with your son’s but still working on the other students. I guess that means that she only want to submit them all at once. Well, she only has three more hours to submit them. Meanwhile, my ds’ NMSC screen still states:
“Your school official has not transmitted the completed application to NMSC.”

I was feeling the stress, too. My son’s principal had told me that the school’s part was all done. But it wasn’t showing as submitted by the school when I logged in. When I tried to reach the guidance counselor (new this year), she didn’t call me back, but this morning asked my son for a brag sheet. So it sounds like she was working on it up until the last minute, too. But the website finally says, “Your completed application was transmitted 10/9.” The GC still hasn’t returned my email or call. What about the kids who don’t have involved parents to keep on top of this stuff? Very nerve-wracking.

Glad to hear all the positive news today!

DS school won the procrastination award! Before we left for a college fair today at 6pm, I checked the NMS website to find the same “Your school official has not transmitted the completed application to NMSC.” When we retuned home at 9pm, the website stated the sweet words of “Your completed application was transmitted to NMSC on 10/09/13.” I can rest better tonight!

omg 4beardolls, I think my kid would have had a heart attack if it still wasn’t showing up as done by 6pm!

Yeah, I felt physically sick during the college fair.

Sorry, 4bear, but mine wins. The site still says that my son has submitted his application to the school. No completed indication yet. Had I not called NM yesterday afternoon, I’d be freaking out about now.

Sorry you have the honor now!
Come to think of it, our kids turn in their homework on time, do well on their tests, completed the NMS application in time, and their schools can’t even do their part to set a good example.

I know, right?! The school made all the NM kids get their applications completed and submitted to the school by September 30, then they take up to the very last minute to actually turn them in!

Ugh, can all the parents please make their own thread to brag about children procrastinating and achieving? I came here to rant about my own score.

I, too, missed the cutoff. By 1 point. 223, non-selective public school, no prep. Mostly I’m just annoyed that I wasted an SAT score-report.

Have they already sent out “commended” letters? I might want to put that on my apps, but my school hasn’t given us anything yet. I’m obviously commended, right?

Sorry kitkat522. FWIW, this thread is just for you: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/national-merit-scholarships/1551563-missed-point-support-group.html

KitKat you are commended with 20 pts to spare. Sorry you live in a high scoring state. Still if you get over 2200 on the real SAT, which I bet you did, you will be a strong candidate for lots of other merit aid…Just trying to help you look on the bright side.

How are the national merit finalists determined from the semi finalist group? Is it based mostly on GPA/SAT scores or the more subjective portions like extracurriculars and essay? Also, there was no word limit for the essay so mine was around 450-500.
